- Until March, 18 workshops will be organised on several islands led by volunteer employees who will advise those attending on energy efficiency in their homes.
- At the national level, the Energy Volunteering programme will reach more than 3,000 families distributed throughout 17 territories.
One more year, Endesa, in collaboration with the Spanish Red Cross and the Ecology and Development (ECODES in Spanish) Foundation, are joining forces in an Energy Volunteering programme to give directly advice and help to vulnerable families, implementing a number of energy efficiency measures that will contribute to reducing electricity consumption in their homes.
In the Canary Island community, 18 workshops will be organised until March and given by volunteers on different islands with the attendance of 270 families who will be given recommendations on energy consumption and on the formulas they can apply in their homes to reduce the electricity bill.
In the workshops organised in the Canary Islands as part of an Energy Volunteering programme, with an attendance by island of 90 people in Tenerife, 90 in La Gomera, 45 in Fuerteventura and 45 in Lanzarote. To this figure we should add 12 families selected by the Spanish Red Cross who will receive customised assistance in their homes from Endesa employees participating in the programme. During the visit, volunteers will analyse the situation with regard to electricity in the homes in order to adopt measures to correct any deficiencies that are the cause of greater electricity consumption.
The sixth edition of the Energy Volunteering programme, which seeks to help by involving its employees, will intervene with more than 3,000 families nationwide spread over 17 locations all over Spain.
Both the social and economic crisis caused by the pandemic, as well as the conflict resulting from the war in Ukraine and its impact on the energy market, have resulted in high volatility and price escalations that may lead to new situations of exclusion. In this regard, Endesa has not only enabled internal protocols in the most agile way possible (systems to enable the communication and contracting of the new Social Bonus modality, communications to customers with a regulated tariff, information to customers with Social Bonus, updating of information on the website, etc.), it has also launched a number of voluntary initiatives of a social nature that contribute to reducing the impact of this situation.
The Energy Volunteering Project has two lines of action: Firstly, families are advised on energy billing, energy efficiency and the Social Bonus, pointing out the latest regulatory changes which will enable them to optimise their energy bill. This will consist of about 100 in-person workshops that are organised to take place on different dates in Seville, Málaga and Huelva (Andalusia); Zaragoza (Aragón); Gerona, Barcelona, Tarragona and Lérida (Catalonia); Badajoz (Extremadura) and Madrid, as well as in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza (Balearic Islands) and Tenerife, La Gomera, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura (Canary Islands).
These workshops will also involve the delivery of kits with energy efficiency items that those attending can install in their homes to improve their habitability. This includes as edging and insulation for glass, reflectors for radiators, multi-socket adaptors to prevent the devices from remaining on pause and using energy, low consumption bulbs, etc.
Secondly, providing customised attention for families with a special level of vulnerability, giving them support with a view to optimising their energy bills through actions such as changing power and contracting the Social Bonus. This assessment is given by using the ENERSOC online tool developed by ECODES. There are also special rehabilitation actions in those homes where installations with electrical risk are detected with an impact on people's safety.
After the customised attention, ECODES will measure the impact that this activity has had on families (savings generated, improved comfort, etc.).
This energy volunteering action is one of Endesa's lines of work in its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 on "Access to energy", which frames the fight against energy poverty, in collaboration with strategic partners such as the Red Cross and ECODES. Under the Creation of Shared Value (CSV) model, Endesa is promoting the premise of "leaving no one behind" in those communities where it operates. This is possible thanks to the volunteers participating in this programme which offers the company's employees the possibility of participating in initiatives focussed on improving the lives of others and the environment.
