Plan Auto + 2026: incentives for electric vehicles replacing MOVES III

The government has announced Plan Auto + 2026, the programme that will replace the current MOVES III and will serve as the main incentive scheme for the purchase of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids starting next year.

The plan is part of the Plan España + 2030 programme and is built around a clear goal: simplifying access to incentives, reducing red tape and avoiding the long wait times that have characterised previous calls.

The official terms and conditions have not yet been published, so the information currently available is provisional.

Key updates to Plan Auto + compared to MOVES III

Although some details are still pending, the government has already outlined several of the main updates to the new plan:

  • The incentive will be applied directly at the dealership at the time of purchase. Buyers will not need to pay upfront or wait months for reimbursement.
  • Management will be state-level and centralised through a digital platform coordinated by the Ministry of Industry, eliminating differences between autonomous communities.
  • Fewer formalities and faster processing for both individuals and businesses.

Estimated budget for Plan Auto + 2026

According to preliminary government announcements, Plan Auto + will include:

  • Estimated initial budget: 400 million euros
  • Intended for the purchase of:
    • Fully electric vehicles
    • Plug-in hybrids
    • Electric vans for professional use

This budget may be increased depending on demand, as has happened in previous calls.

Estimated incentive amounts

Pending official confirmation, incentives under Plan Auto + would be similar to those under MOVES III:

  • Up to €7,000 for electric cars, subject to scrapping an old vehicle
  • Up to €4,500 for electric cars without scrapping an old vehicle
  • Up to €9,000 for electric vans

Final amounts will depend on the type of vehicle, its use (private or professional) and whether an older vehicle is handed over for scrapping.

When does Plan Auto + come into effect?

So far, Plan Auto + has not been published in the Official State Gazette (BOE). The government has confirmed its launch for 2026, but the following details are still pending:

  • Final terms and conditions
  • Eligibility requirements
  • Eligible vehicles
  • Official application process

Once the regulations are published, this information will be updated with full details.
