Decarbonization and the shift toward producing energy from renewable sources represent one of the greatest milestones of our time, plunging Spain and other developed countries into a new industrial revolution. Renowned photojournalist Álvaro Ybarra Zavala uses his camera to capture every inch of this complex process, one that not only demands technological transformation but also entails a metamorphosis for its main protagonists and the communities experiencing it firsthand.
Towns such as As Pontes, Cubillos del Sil, Andorra, or Carboneras, where some of the country’s last coal-fired power plants are being shut down, have become nerve centers of this accelerated handover between past and future. And no, this is not merely a visual journey; his lens captures more than the facilities of a sector essential to our society’s progress. It portrays the pulse of all those groups undergoing transformation and the human commitment driving the evolution toward a more sustainable tomorrow.
