- The chargers are located in a strategic location: very close to the Northeast highway (A-2), which connects Madrid and Barcelona, and just over 50 kilometers from Zaragoza.
- There are already 2 ultra-fast chargers (300 kW and 150 kW) at the Gasolprice service station closest to the A-2 heading towards Madrid. Additionally, two more chargers (300 kW and 150 kW) located at another nearby service area are in the process of being connected to the grid.
- They are powered by renewable energy and allow light electric vehicles to charge in just minutes, but they are also designed for heavy vehicle charging.
- The agreement with Gasolprice is one of the hundreds Endesa has made since 2018 to develop what is now one of the largest public charging networks in Spain with nearly 6,000 charging points across the country and the highest quality: more than 40% are fast and ultra-fast chargers.
Endesa, the leading operator of integrated energy solutions, and Gasolprice have launched the first ultra-fast chargers at one of the Zaragoza-based operator's service stations in La Almunia de Doña Godina. The chargers, 150 kW and 300 kW, can serve any light electric vehicle model that allows charging at these powers and are also designed for heavy vehicle charging, which is key in this geographical location of the peninsula for freight traffic. Spain is the second country in Europe with the most road transport, only surpassed by Germany, according to Eurostat data.
Gasolprice operates two service stations located on the A-121 and A-220, which connect La Almunia de Doña Godina with Ricla and Cariñena, respectively. The chargers are located in a strategic location, as both stations are very close to the Northeast highway (A-2), which connects Madrid and Barcelona, and just over 50 kilometers from Zaragoza.
The 4 first charging points (2 of 150 kW and 2 of 300 kW) that are already operational are the ones installed at the station closest to the A-2 heading towards Madrid. The other 4 (2 of 150 kW and 2 of 300 kW), located at the other service station, are awaiting the final steps for grid connection.
The A-2 is one of the six radial highways in Spain that connects Madrid with Barcelona and is part of the E-90 of the European Road Network. This road also channels, using the La Junquera-Barcelona section of the Mediterranean Highway, a significant portion of traffic from the points in Europe located to the east of the Pyrenees, mainly heading to the center of the Iberian Peninsula, including Portugal.
“Endesa has a service-oriented vocation, and we have been facilitating the electrification of transport in our country for over a decade. Steps like this are fundamental to electrify such a key and relevant sector as freight transport in our country: in Spain, 95% of goods are transported by road. Electrifying it is essential to reduce emissions across the entire transport sector and in Spain as a whole,” said Davide Ciciliato, General Director of Endesa Marketing.
Charging in Minutes
The deployment of ultra-fast charging along highways will make the charging process similar to what users are accustomed to when stopping to refuel at a service station. The time required to recharge the vehicle's battery will depend on its size (the larger the battery, the more time it will take) and the type of charge. Ultra-fast charging technology can be used by all electric vehicles that have a standard European CCS2 or Combo connector (as shown in the attached image) and allow this type of charging. This means the car will only charge at the maximum power determined by the vehicle's own electrical system design.
For light electric vehicles, with the 150 kW charger, 80% of the battery can be recovered in approximately 10 minutes; while with the 300 kW charger, designed for those who need to recharge in the shortest possible time, only 3 to 10 minutes are needed to get an additional 100 km of range. For heavy vehicles, charging times are slightly longer due to their much larger batteries.
The agreement between Endesa and Gasolprice also highlights both parties' firm commitment to promoting electric mobility as a tool to strengthen the fight against climate change in the context of the current energy transition and to contribute to the success of sustainability and economic development goals. Therefore, in addition to providing charging infrastructure to users, the energy powering the vehicles is certified as renewable.
How to Use the Chargers?
Regarding the charging, reservation, use, and payment of the service, these can be done quickly and easily through Endesa's electric mobility app. Users just need to download the app on their mobile, and with it, they can manage their electric vehicle charges directly from their phone (pay, reserve up to 15 minutes in advance, etc.) and access tariffs tailored to all users, with monthly charging tariffs and pay-per-use options, so users only pay for what they charge.
The app is available for iOS and Android, and users can sign up directly via their Facebook or Google account, or by providing an email address. Additionally, by registering, users can enjoy favorable economic conditions on charging thanks to existing charging tariffs; they can also create their own account with preferences and payment methods, which will make future charging easier. In any case, the registration process to use the app is optional, and users can choose to use the service without prior registration and pay directly with their credit card, always through the app.
Charging Solutions
The agreement with Gasolprice joins Endesa’s long and solid list of collaborations since 2018 to develop what is now one of the largest public charging networks in Spain. It aims to promote electric mobility and cover the charging needs of users wherever they need it, without altering their habits. With this alliance, Endesa moves forward in its commitment to facilitate electric mobility for all users, with charging types suited to all uses in parking lots, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, etc.; and also with ultra-fast charging on highways at service stations like those of Gasolprice, allowing users to have peace of mind when undertaking long-distance trips. In fact, within its public charging infrastructure development plan, Endesa has deployed nearly 6,000 charging points across Spain with all types of technologies.
In Aragón alone, Endesa operates 216 charging points (144 in Zaragoza; 20 in Teruel; and 52 in Huesca) and another 120 installed, awaiting necessary permits to begin operating. All chargers have more than 22 kW of power (semi-fast) and 18% are already ultra-fast chargers.
Endesa’s goal for the coming years remains to increase the charging network, accompanying market development and providing charging solutions to customers wherever they are needed.
Building Trust
Currently, Gasolprice has all its supplies with Endesa, making it its energy partner of choice for carrying out medium-voltage installations in its expansions, providing advice, and managing the entire supply process. This agreement in electric mobility strengthens the high level of trust between the two parties and creates great prospects for continued growth together.
