Going on holiday in an electric vehicle? Yes, it is possible
It is possible to enjoy a holiday and think about the planet if you know how to do it and, most importantly, which paths to take. Here are two routes to discover Catalonia by electric vehicle thanks to the network of Endesa X charging stations.
Enjoying a holiday in Spain in an electric vehicle is possible. Autonomy is no longer a problem thanks to the extensive network of charging stations provided by Endesa X and which continues to grow.
Even though the absence of CO2 emissions is the biggest advantage of this type of vehicle, it is not the only one. They also cost less to use than combustion vehicles, have advantages when parking on public roads, tax benefits and above all, they are more pleasant to drive on long trips.
If you want to enjoy the trip and be surprised by the magical little corners hidden within our country, you need to know the route you will take before you set off. Today there are itineraries that not only show you the path you need to follow to enjoy your holiday to the fullest, they also take the environmental impact into account.
In Catalonia, there are two routes with eight stops each which are a perfect example of all this. Both routes, along the coast and through the inland regions, have Endesa X charging stations every 50 kilometres, sometimes even less! All of them have a green origin guarantee certificate, which guarantees that the electricity comes from renewable sources. It is also very easy to charge at these stations if you use the Endesa X JuicePass app, which will help you find the nearest public charging station, book it and manage the recharge from your mobile.
Taking into account that the autonomy of electric cars exceeds 300 kilometres, either of the following two itineraries would be ideal to enjoy an unforgettable holiday committed to sustainable mobility.
Route with views of the Mediterranean: From the Empordà to the Ebro Delta
This is the ideal route for beach lovers since you will not only be able to travel along some of the most stunning coasts on the Mediterranean, you will also get to visit a number of mediaeval cities and castles, always with different charging stations within reach.
- Cadaqués. This municipality in the province of Girona is attractive because of its seafaring style, its white houses and its coves with beautiful crystal clear water. There is a semi-fast charging station in Cadaqués itself.
- Platja d´Aro. In this town there are several options. S'Ágaró, with exceptional beaches; and Castell d'Áro, with mediaeval charm. There is a fast charging station in the Parque de Aro Leisure Centre.
- Tossa de Mar. The best idea is to go up to La Vila Vella de Tossa, the only example of a fortified mediaeval town that is still preserved on the Catalan coast, and you can take a swim in Blanes while charging your electric car.
- Sant Andreu de Llavaneres (Maresme). The gastronomy in the towns and villages in the Maresme make them the ideal place to stop and recover and, of course, to recharge your car at the charging station located in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres.
- Sitges. A stop that is not to be missed. Sitges is synonymous with beach, gastronomy and architecture. You can visit Vilanova y la Geltrú, where there is also a charging station.
- Cambrils. This is an ideal base to explore the surroundings of Roman Tarragona in Salou and Reus in the Priorat. It is best to enjoy the beaches or take stroll through the Barrio Marinero. Both in the area around Tarragona and Cambrils there are a number of semi-fast charging stations.
- L'Ampolla. This is one of the points of entry to the Ebro Delta. A very special landscape shaped by the sea, with rice paddies, a lagoon and, of course, the famous flamingos.
- Sant Carles de la Ràpita. You will find up to eight beaches, but the most spectacular are those of Capri, Garbí and Trabucador. The bay of Alfaques is ideal for water sports. The car can be recharged at the station on the seafront promenade.
Circular route through Central Catalonia
Full of natural landscapes and beautiful samples of cultural heritage, this route will enable you to visit the inland regions of Catalonia with a reduced environmental impact, because here you will find numerous charging stations.
- Cardona. The trip begins at Cardona Castle (Barcelona). Located on a hill, it is probably the most important mediaeval fortress in Catalonia and was the last to fall during the War of Succession. In the same locality you will find a fast charging station.
- Mura. With stone houses and the Romanesque church of San Martín it is one of the most beautiful municipalities in the Bages region. It is full of surprises, like the Garganta del Padre and numerous fountains. The best way to get there is from Manresa, where there are a number of fast charging stations.
- Igualada. This is a good place to discover waterfalls throughout the region. Special mention should go to the Riera de Carmen, the Fou de Tous, the route of the Cabrera d'Ánoia and Gorg del Nafre de Copons waterfalls.
- Castellterçol. This is a lush environment full of forests and natural springs, as well as exceptional views from any of the nearby mountains to Montseny, Montserrat and even the Pyrenees. There is a semi-fast charging station.
- Montseny. In Aiguafreda there is an information point for the park which is the departure point for some of the routes and it is very near the top of Tagamanent. The nearest charging stations are those in Centelles and Els Hostalets de Balenyà.
- Vic. Next to the Roman Temple and the remains of the Los Montcada Castle you will find Vicpuntzero which organises guided tours.
- Montesquiu. The Castle of Montesquiu organises visits and activities linked to the nature reserve with the same name. There is a fast charging station in nearby Sant Quirze de Besora.
- Pantano de la Baells. This is the ideal place to enjoy water activities and guided tours that will enable you to have fun paddling and you can go as far as places like the monastery of San Salvador de la Ternera.
There are currently more than 2,000 charging stations operating in Spain, 240 in Catalonia (for 420 vehicles). By 2030, the company plans to install more than 8,500 new charging stations with public access throughout the country, in shopping centres, car parks, hotel chains, service areas, public roads, etc. Recharging will be ultra-fast (100 km in 3 minutes), fast (100 km in 20 minutes) and semi-fast (100 km in 45 minutes). The goal is to reach 36,000 charging stations (public and private).
Undoubtedly, autonomy and charging stations are no longer an excuse not to use an electric car when travelling and going on holiday. Get ready for the adventure!
