- A collaboration agreement with the Red Cross and ECODES has just been signed for the sixth edition of Energy Volunteering
- This programme is expected to contribute to the reduction of the energy bills of more than 3,000 families.
Both the social and economic crisis caused by the pandemic, as well as the conflict resulting from the war in Ukraine and its impact on the energy market, has led to high volatility and escalation in the price that can cause new situations of exclusion. In this regard, Endesa has not only enabled internal protocols in the most agile way possible (systems to enable the communication and contracting of the new social bonus modality, communications to customers with a regulated tariff, information to customers with social bonus, updating of information on the website, etc.), it has also launched a number of voluntary initiatives of a social nature that contribute to reducing the impact of this situation.
With regard to this, the sixth edition of the Energy Volunteering programme has begun in collaboration with the Red Cross and the Ecology and Development Foundation (ECODES), which seeks involve its employees with a view to helping more than 3,000 families in 17 locations throughout Spain.
The project has two lines of action: Firstly, families will be advised on energy billing, energy efficiency and the social bonus, pointing out the latest regulatory changes which will enable them to optimise their energy bill. This will consist of about 100 in-person workshops that will be organised in Seville, Málaga and Huelva (Andalusia); Zaragoza (Aragón); Gerona, Barcelona, Tarragona and Lérida (Catalonia); Badajoz (Extremadura) and Madrid, as well as in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza (Balearic Islands) and Tenerife, La Gomera, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura (Canary Islands).
These workshops will also deliver kits with energy efficiency items that those attending can install in their homes to improve their habitability. This includes as edging and insulation for glass, reflectors for radiators, multi-socket adaptors to prevent the devices from remaining on pause and using energy, low consumption bulbs, etc.
Secondly, providing customised attention for families with a special level of vulnerability, giving them support with a view to optimising their energy bill through actions such as changing power and contracting the social bonus. . This assessment will be given by using the ENERSOC online tool developed by ECODES. There will also be special rehabilitation actions in those homes where installations with electrical risk are detected with an impact on people's safety.
After the customised attention, ECODES will measure the impact that this activity has had on families (savings generated, improved comfort, etc.).
Since this initiative began in 2015, nearly 3,300 families corresponding to about 10,000 people have benefited from the different actions undertaken within the framework of the project.
This energy volunteering action is one of Endesa's lines of work in its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 on "Access to energy", which frames the fight against energy poverty, in collaboration with strategic partners such as the Red Cross and ECODES. Under the Creation of Shared Value (CSV) model, Endesa is promoting the premise of "leaving no one behind" in those communities where it operates. This is possible thanks to the volunteers participating in this programme which offers the company's employees the possibility of participating in initiatives focussed on improving the lives of others and the environment.
