- Endesa has invested 42.6 million euros in the construction of Esparragal I, through its renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power España.
Endesa has completed the construction of Esparragal I, through its renewables division Enel Green Power España (EGPE), with the investment of 42.6 million euros. This 47.5 MW solar plant is located in the municipality of Guillena.
This new renewable plant will be able to produce 108.5 GWh per year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 27,510 families, or, to put it another way, the combined energy consumption of Guillena, the Corredor de la Plata, Santiponce and Camas. This new renewable generation capacity will avoid 44,436 tonnes of atmospheric emissions of CO2 per year, equivalent to the emissions of 30,000 cars during the same period.
640 people were employed in the construction of this new infrastructure, in which Endesa applied its Sustainable Construction Site model. This means elements were used during construction to make it more sustainable, such as the installation of photovoltaic solar panels to meet some of the energy needs during construction, measures to save water by installing tanks and rainwater collection systems, and use of electric vehicle charging points and efficient lighting. All this material will be donated to the municipalities for public use now the work has been completed.
Endesa's priorities include employing local workers, as well as hiring catering services and accommodation for workers in the local area, in order to maximise the social-economic impact of its projects on the community. With this in mind, training courses in the installation, operation and maintenance of photovoltaic panels were provided for 40 people, to train and promote a specialised local workforce.
Enel Green Power España, Endesa's renewable-energy subsidiary, goes a step further in its projects, integrating its renewable plants into the environments where it constructs them, This involves developing projects such as the successful solar apiary that is now operating at Endesa's solar plant in Carmona, and agrivoltaic initiatives that combine the farming and industrial sectors. The company will study the implementation of such developments in this new project, which has been designed with circularity in mind from the outset.
Endesa is committed to developing new renewable capacity in Andalusia in order to achieve the objective of total decarbonisation of its energy mix by 2040. The wealth of solar production available in Andalusia means the company is studying new possibilities throughout Andalusia, always considering the socio-economic development involved in renewable projects.
Endesa's renewable division, Enel Green Power España, has 48 hydroelectric power plants, 13 wind power plants, 9 photovoltaic plants and 1 biomass plant in Andalusia, with a capacity of 348 megawatts. The capacity in the region will increase by 400% with the new renewable projects planned.
