- The Social Bonus is aimed at pensioners, large families, people in vulnerable situations, beneficiaries of the minimum vital income and low-income households particularly affected by the volatility of energy markets
By the end of 2023 Endesa had increased the number of Social Bonus beneficiaries by 22% compared to 2022. This puts the number of Spanish households, Endesa customers, enjoying this aid at 575,000, reducing their electricity bill by between 40 and 80% compared to the Voluntary Price for Small Consumers (PVSC).
To promote the Social Bonus, Endesa provides proactive advice to bodies and institutions with the aim of reaching all entities close to the end consumer and informing them of the existence of the aid, regulatory changes and how to apply for it. In 2023, assessment was provided for associations, regional governments, town halls and social services, and this year the company is continuing with these actions to encourage all those they believe can benefit from the Social Bonus to apply for it.
Coronavirus and the energy crisis led the administration to promote extraordinary measures to mitigate the effects on the most vulnerable households and these will remain in force until 30 June 2024 and promote an increase in the number of people benefitting from the Social Bonus, which has been strengthened by automatic renovations since Royal Decree Law 6/2022 came into force. Throughout 2024, the severely vulnerable also paid 10% VAT on electricity regardless of the market price. In one year, an additional 102,500 Endesa customers benefitted from the Social Bonus.
According to the criteria and discounts established by national regulations, of the total number of households benefitting from the Social Bonus at the end of 2023, about 316,778 are vulnerable families who already benefit from a 65% reduction on their electricity consumption (or 40% if they benefit from the temporary fair energy bonus), whilst more than 243,674 are severely vulnerable and benefit from an 80% reduction on their bill. These discounts will be valid until June 30, 2024.
By type, 65.9% are people who are vulnerable in accordance with income criteria, 27.92% are officially declared large families, 4.53% are pensioners, 1.11% are people earning the minimum wage and 2.54% are households with low incomes and particularly affected by the energy crisis.
Processing the Social Bonus
Customers will find more information about this aid on the following website: https://www.energiaxxi.com/bono-social or the EnergiaXXI Social Bonus App, where they will find the specific requirements to apply for it and the documentation required to process it.
When the company receives the documentation, a specialised team responds to the applicants and confirms whether or not all the necessary documents have been received. If any document is missing, the client is informed and then, when the application is complete, it is sent to the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge which verifies compliance with the economic requirements. Finally, the energy company is responsible for communicating the Ministry's resolution to the client.
