- Throughout 2023, Endesa and Asaja have been travelling more than 21,000 kilometres through rural areas of Spain with a Mobile Office, serving the needs of more than 600 farmers.
- The aim of this initiative is to train young farmers to promote rural entrepreneurship and improve sustainability in municipalities where Endesa's renewable projects are being developed, thus creating a symbiosis between the primary and industrial sectors.
Digitalisation, self-consumption, energy efficiency and digital energy certificates are the biggest challenges facing rural areas, but most importantly, they represent the main concerns of Spanish farmers.
This has been collected by the Endesa and Asaja Mobile Office, which, throughout 2023, has travelled more than 21,000 kilometres throughout Spain to support the rural world and promote its digitalisation. In fact, this innovative initiative has managed to serve more than 600 farmers and people in rural areas by answering their questions and offering training courses.
"This initiative," explains Yolanda Lozano, Endesa's project coordinator, "seeks to promote entrepreneurship in rural areas, helping to prevent them from becoming depopulated. We have chosen a tour of the areas where Endesa has renewable plants, because we believe that this symbiosis between the primary and industrial sectors is fundamental, because both have to share and not compete for land use, which is why the keys are training and digitalisation".
This year, the Mobile Office has visited 7 autonomous communities (Balearic Islands, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha, Aragon, Castilla y León, Extremadura, and Andalusia), and 38 municipalities located in the vicinity of Endesa's renewable plants, such as the solar plants of Sa Caseta (Mallorca), Totana (Murcia) and Estrella Solar (Puertollano).
The Endesa and Asaja Mobile Office has also made it possible to provide access to the more than 40 training courses that both entities have designed to help rural environments. These courses, which are aimed at young people, the unemployed and people linked to the agricultural sector, deal with topics such as agriculture, livestock, nurseries, beekeeping, insecticulture and the circular economy. A total of 11 courses have been held, benefiting 190 people, and another 13 with more than 200 participants are planned.
The courses deal with subjects that are in high demand by the agricultural sector and have high potential, such as: innovation, digitalisation and the operation of agricultural machinery; business management, Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and ICT grants and techniques for the management and pruning of fledging crops (pistachio, almond, avocado and olive groves), with priority given to those that are best suited to the area, adapting training initiatives to the interests of the local community.
This training offer is one of the Creating Shared Value (CSV) projects and initiatives carried out by Endesa in the territories where it is deploying renewable projects. The goal is always their best territorial integration and maximum socio-economic value for the local communities in their surroundings. And under this approach, the hybridization of energy production with the primary sector is proposed, incorporating agriculture, beekeeping and livestock activities in renewable facilities with the aim of sharing and not competing for land use, thus generating more opportunities for socioeconomic development in the area.
