- 40 students with the best academic and sporting profiles have taken part in this programme from among the 4,000 applicants from 300 schools throughout Spain.
- The 16 winning students will benefit from a scholarship and admission to universities in the United States, Canada, England, Ireland and Scotland.
- The programme, promoted by W2A Management and the Endesa Foundation with the support of Bankinter and Volvo, has also made it possible for all participants to know their what their chances are of studying at English-speaking universities and where they could best do so, based on their academic profile.
Sixteen students from a total of 40 young people from all over Spain with excellent academic and sports profiles have triumphed at the final of the American Dream 2020 programme promoted by W2A Management and the Foundation Endesa to allow Spanish students to pursue their future university studies in the US, Canada, England, Ireland and Scotland.
The sixteen winners of the final, which was held online for health and safety reasons, will benefit from a scholarship and free admission to a university in the aforementioned countries to continue their studies there.
At the ceremony, the finalists and their families were joined by Pablo Laso, the Real Madrid basketball coach and Javier Arizmendi, the former footballer from Atlético de Madrid, Valencia and other teams, who shared their professional and training experiences with the participants.
The finalists were selected after a process which began back in January 2020, in which a series of tests were carried out with a special focus on maths and English. The results, together with an analysis of their academic and extracurricular profiles, were assessed by a panel of experts.
Of the 16 scholarships awarded, eight came from the Endesa Foundation’s Illuminamos Talento awards, which are specifically reserved for pre-university students who play basketball.
The American Dream programme aims to make it easier for 4th year secondary school and 1st year Baccalaureate students from all over Spain to have access to scholarships to continue their future university studies in the USA, Canada, England, Ireland and Scotland.
To do this, it has partnered with 300 Spanish schools in order to let the 4,000 programme participants see their real possibilities of continuing their university studies in these countries, the requirements, the universities that best fit their profile and so on.
This is done through an “American Dream Report” that all participants receive free of charge and in which, in addition to informing them of their real possibilities to continue their studies at universities in the aforementioned countries, an assessment of their academic and extracurricular profile is made, offering university and career suggestions, based on personal analysis.
“We provide the 4,000 participants with a personalised report that will allow them to make better decisions regarding their future. The 40 best candidates from all over Spain, all of whom have exceptional talent, go on to the final phase,” says Sally Djabo, director of W2A Management. “This year has been particularly complex due to the current circumstances. We therefore wanted to highlight the effort and commitment of all participants who have shown a great capacity for adaptation.”
Begoña Muñoz de Verger, project director of the Endesa Foundation, highlighted the level of commitment and effort of all final-phase participants this year. “Given the circumstances in which the tests have taken place, the high level of motivation of the students and the invaluable support of their parents and teachers has really stood out for us. This year we have looked to highlight the talent of the students who want to go to the United States to combine their future university studies with their sports careers”.
