- The Chairman of FELIB, Antoni Salas, and the General Manager of Endesa in the Balearic Islands, Martí Ribas, today signed an agreement.
- Currently more than 50 municipalities, almost 80% of the total, have joined the FELIB procurement centre, including the 4 island capitals, together with the 4 island councils. This will enable those municipalities that wish to do so to contract the electricity supply through the agreement that was formalised.
The Chairman of the Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands (FELIB), Antoni Salas Roca, and the General Manager of Endesa in the Balearic Islands, Martí Ribas, today signed an agreement to be able to supply electricity of 100% renewable origin to local entities in the Balearic Islands. This agreement is the result of a tender awarded to Endesa, with a validity of one year, until December 31, 2023, and enables administrations to make joint purchases, thus avoiding the need to submit an individual tender each time an entity wants to contract the electricity supply, which makes contracting much easier for the municipalities.
Endesa will supply fully renewable energy to the municipalities in the Balearic Islands that join the scheme, as well as other local entities. Antoni Salas pointed out that "this is to everyone's advantage, as the municipalities that joined the energy contracting centre have obtained significant savings in their energy bills".
Martí Ribas added that "the contract has enabled us to offer the best price to the municipalities in the Balearic Islands, with the advantage that they will be provided with 100% renewable energy, which is important with regard to the energy transition process within the islands with the aim of achieving a decarbonised economy by 2040". Endesa's General Manager for the Balearic Islands highlighted the company's commitment to society and institutions within the territory.
So far, more than 50 municipalities have already joined the FELIB procurement centre, almost 80% of the total municipalities in the islands, including the four island capitals (Palma, Maó, Eivissa and Formentera), in addition to the 4 island councils as well as numerous municipal companies, so those towns that wish to do so can contract the electricity supply through the agreement and be able to enjoy multiple advantages with regard to installations and price. Any further municipalities that wish to join the procurement centre can do so and benefit from the agreement.
