- Overall this year, Endesa has been awarded a total of 879 MW of new renewable power, after the 540 MW of wind power awarded in the tender last May.
- Endesa will invest approximately 270 million euros in the construction of the solar capacity it has been awarded in the tender held today.
Endesa, acting through its renewable energy division, Enel Green Power España (“EGPE”), has been awarded 339 MW of solar power capacity in Spain, following today’s tender aimed at collecting 3,000 MW from renewable energies.
This solar capacity obtained by the company adds to the 540 MW of wind power capacity that it was already awarded last May in the first tender launched by the Spanish Government to help the country achieve its target to cover 20% of energy consumption with renewable energy by 2020.
Therefore, overall this year, Endesa has been awarded a total of 879 MW of new renewable energy, which will mean increasing its current infrastructure for these technologies in Spain by 52,4%.
Endesa’s Chairman, José Bogas, highlighted that the result of this new tender “confirms Enel Green Power España as one of the leading operators in renewable energies in the Spanish market and represents a very important step in Endesa’s aim to be a decisive stakeholder in the energy transition process towards a fully decarbonised system by 2050”.
Endesa will invest approximately 270 million euros in the construction of the solar capacity it has been awarded in this latest tender. The solar capacity adds to the 600 million euros to be invested as a result of the 540 MW awarded in the tender last May and which will even mean exceeding the investment planned in the area of renewables in the company’s current Industrial Plan.
The company estimates that the projects in which this new power will be materialised, will enter into operation by 2.019. All of them will sell their energy in the Spanish pool market while the Spanish Government will provide incentives, by means of yearly capacity payments, to guarantee a steady return over the 25 years of the plants’ lifetime.
Endesa’s new solar projects, which will be in the regions of Murcia and Badajoz, will generate approximately 640 GWh per year and will prevent the emission of around 384.000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Enel Green Power España, Endesa’s renewable energy branch, manages an installed capacity of around 1,675 MW of capacity in Spain, of which 1,618 MW comes from wind, 43 MW from hydropower and 14 MW from other renewable energy sources like solar and biomass. EGPE’s renewable plants generate around 4TWh of emission-free energy each year.
