Endesa joins the Military Emergency Unit’s National Network

• The aim of the company's affiliation with the National Emergency Wide Area Network (RENEM) is to facilitate and encourage collaboration with the unit assigned to the Ministry of Defence in the event of emergencies.
• Endesa and the UME undertake to share relevant information in order to speed up decision-making processes in situations of risk.
• Endesa will provide logistical and technical support and consultancy and intervention services for the UME.

Endesa has signed an agreement with the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to promote the exchange of information, experience and knowledge and to encourage greater collaboration between the power company and the unit assigned to the Ministry of Defence in emergency situations. The agreement to join the National Emergency Network (RENEM) establishes the conditions for acting in a coordinated manner when planning, preparing and responding to situations of risk.

The National Emergency Network (RENEM) is an Information and Telecommunications System that enables information concerning alerts to be shared and integrated and the different agencies in charge of managing emergencies to be coordinated, including the Public Administration and the Regional Communities and private companies responsible for critical infrastructures, such as the electrical grid. This network allows relevant information to be shared, it facilitates decision-making processes and synchronises the actions of civilian and military actors involved in disaster management processes.

The agreement, signed this Tuesday by the Major General Miguel Alcañiz Comas and on behalf of Endesa by the General Manager of Infrastructures and Networks, Francesco Amadei, the Manager of the South macro-region, Jesús Fumanal, the Manager of the North macro-region, Antonio Jerez, and the Operations and Maintenance Manager, José Manuel Revuelta, seeks to promote the collaboration in the event of emergencies that could occur in Endesa's distribution grid or in the company's facilities in areas of risk through any emergency situation.

The affiliation with the RENEM comes after the signing of the collaboration framework agreement signed by the UME and Endesa at the end of last year, which saw Endesa undertake to provide logistical and technical support and consultancy and intervention services for the Emergency Unit, as well as to collaborate and provide scientific and technical advice for the UME when planning and conducting exercises and drills.

Endesa Red manages the power distribution network in the Communities of Andalusia-Extremadura, Aragón, Catalonia, Castile and León, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and Galicia and is responsible for managing and controlling 314,528 kilometres of the company’s distribution network.

In June 2013, Endesa requested the collaboration of the UME to transport nine large power units in the Armed Forces’ large capacity helicopters, in order to re-establish the power supply in the Valle de Arán and the regions in the north of Lleida, which were affected by serious flooding.
