Endesa's distribution subsidiary, e-distribution, will undertake this year nearly 14,000 live working jobs (TET in Spanish), which enable maintenance and improvement on the network without interrupting the electricity supply to customers. This means that there will be twice the number of jobs of this nature as there were in 2020 and represents a further step in the objective of improving the quality and continuity of the electricity supply.
Live working, which requires specialised and highly qualified personnel, enables the distribution network infrastructures to be improved without interrupting supply to customers for what would be 3 to 4 hours on average.
To guarantee the protection of technicians, since the installations on which they work are operating at voltages of between 15 and 132 kV, the work is carried out from an isolated nacelle and with insulating protections to reinforce the safety of workers.
This work methodology is used to reduce the impact on the electricity supply (avoiding inconvenience to consumers), or in those installations in which it is not feasible to disconnect from the grid because they are critical supplies.
With regard to the type of works undertaken using this method, special mention should be given to the installation of protections for birdlife and a number of activities relating to the maintenance and development of the distribution network, including the installation of digitalisation and operational elements in aerial networks (sensors and remote control), improvement and maintenance of insulation (chains of insulators, crossheads), maintenance of forest firebreaks (tree pruning), and numerous other maintenance actions in aerial networks and installations.
With a distribution network that has 128,658 transformation centres, 1,270 substations and 312,422 kilometres of lines spread over ten Autonomous Communities, Endesa pays special attention to the maintenance and improvement of a network that supplies 12.3 million customers.
The company will allocate 2,600 million euros between 2021 and 2023 to the distribution network, a key factor for progress in a decarbonised economy, to the electrification of demand and the integration of renewable energies.
