- The intervention was undertaken in the hamlet of Epina, in Vallehermoso, and will have a positive impact on the supply of electricity across the entire Island.
- The digitalisation process will make it easier to locate potential incidents immediately and shorten supply restoration times.
Endesa has set aside an investment of 112,000 euros to improve and strengthen the power belt in La Gomera. The works have been carried out in the area of Epina, in Montaña Blanca, which forms part of the municipality of Vallehermoso. Endesa's technicians consider this as a key point for the proper functioning of the supply of electricity on the island and so they have installed a transformer unit to enhance network manoeuverability in the event of a breakdown. The intervention was carried out at a point that allows the northern power line of La Gomera to be sectorised.
As part of the project, which began in February last year and which was put into service this March, the overhead supply line spanning a section of 200 metres in length was also buried, removing the metal supports and the entire medium voltage line that was visible in the area. To this end, the new installation has been integrated into the landscape and is respectful of the environment and guarantees a minimum visual impact.
This work will improve the service offered to Endesa users in La Gomera, considerably reducing the problems caused by the maintenance of the network and in case of incidents, the new digitised system can be sectorised, minimising the number of affected customers.
The Head of Distribution in the Canary Islands, Carlos Lafoz, pointed out that this project, which includes the introduction of the remote control technology, "is critical to saving time locating breakdowns and, therefore, shortening downtime in the supply of electricity to customers".
Smart grids
Smart grids are essential in improving the supply of electricity as we look to the future. The devices installed provide additional information and controls to technicians at network control centres, increasing the capacity to perform automatic manoeuvres using artificial intelligence algorithms, while improving the support information received by technicians.
