- During the weekend, the minimum ecological flow will be maintained to allow local volunteers to safely access the 90 kilometres of river channels.
- In last year's edition, IniciativaRius volunteers removed 4,150 kilograms of waste from the Noguera Pallaresa River.
This weekend, Endesa – through its renewable energy subsidiary EGPE – will regulate the flow of the Noguera Pallaresa River in Lleida to facilitate cleaning efforts for the 200 volunteers from the region who take part in IniciativaRius year after year. To ensure the safety of participants, the minimum ecological flow will be maintained, allowing access to the 90 kilometres of river channels that form part of the designated clean-up route.
IniciativaRius is a project co-organised by the Pallars Sports Association (AEPallars) and the Alt Pirineu Natural Park (PNAP) to raise public awareness and mitigate the impact on flora and fauna caused by poor waste management in community-interest habitats such as rivers and their entire course.
This is the 13th edition of the initiative, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday, and is open to all local associations (sports, cultural, public, or private), as well as schools, colleges, and the general public. Throughout the week, local schools have participated in various cleaning activities along the Cardós stream, and it is expected that around 200 volunteers from the area will take part in the weekend’s river clean-up across different sections of the Noguera Pallaresa River.
In the most recent edition (2023), a total of 4,150 kilograms of waste of various types was removed:
- 1,960 kg of scrap metal
- 1,500 kg of general waste
- 200 kg of tyres
- 150 kg of rubble
- 100 kg of packaging waste
- 100 kg of wood
- 70 kg of glass
- 50 kg of fibre cement
- 20 kg of paper
