- Endesa's renewable subsidiary, Enel Green Power España, will build the company's first solar plant in the province of Almería in Antas and it will have a capacity of 250 MW.
Endesa, through its renewables division Enel Green Power España (EGPE), has received an Environmental Impact Statement (DIA in Spanish) for the construction of Andrea, the company's first solar plant in the province. Endesa will invest €106 million in the installation which will be located in the municipality of Antas. It will have 250 MW of installed power, which will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of about 16,200 tons of CO2 per year.
The Andreaphotovoltaic plant will follow the sustainable building site model involving the subsequent donation of materials and elements used during construction to the local community to be used by different entities. This is precisely one of the essential features in the agreement signed between Endesa and Antas Town Council, which also includes collaboration in improving employability and assessment to make this municipality in the province of Almeria more sustainable.
Right from the planning stage, this project initiated by Endesa's renewable subsidiary, Enel Green Power España, included preventive environmental measures that will be coordinated with the General Directorate for Quality and Environmental Assessment of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. The preventive measures associated with flora include eliminating invasive species, recovering the vegetation cover with native species and replanting existing large trees. With regard to fauna, an inspection of the area will be undertaken prior to the start of works, and the installations will be adapted to enable the free circulation of species, and to assign reserve areas.
In order to maximise the social-economic impact that the projects will have on the community, Endesa's priorities include employing local labour and contracting services. With this in mind, training courses in the installation, operation and maintenance of photovoltaic panels will be organised, with a view to training and promoting a specialised local workforce.
Obtaining an Environmental Impact Report (DIA) is one of the essential requirements to be able to build a renewable installation, and Endesa is now processing the necessary documentation to be able to start construction work in the first half of 2024.
Endesa is committed to developing new renewable capacity in Andalusia in order to achieve the objective of total decarbonisation of its energy mix by 2040. The wealth of solar production available in Andalusia is leading the company to continue studying new possibilities throughout Andalusia, always taking into consideration the socio-economic development involved in renewable projects.
Endesa's renewable division, Enel Green Power España, has 48 hydroelectric power plants, 13 wind power plants, 9 photovoltaic and 1 biomass plant in Andalucía, with a capacity of 348 megawatts. With the new renewable projects planned, this capacity will increase by 400% within the territory.
