- Endesa once again acts as the strategic partner of the congress and will showcase its strong commitment to the energy transition and respect for biodiversity.
- Endesa will offer a 3D immersive experience in which participants will immerse themselves in a metaverse where they will take on the role of beekeepers to collect 'solar honey' at a photovoltaic plant.
- Endesa will hold the session "Avifauna and the Energy Transition" in which different stakeholders will discuss how technology can help find the balance between renewable development and biodiversity conservation.
Endesa will once again participate in the National Environmental Congress (CONAMA). This 2024 edition, the 17th, will once again feature the best professionals in the environmental field and will take place from December 2 to 5 at the North Convention Center of IFEMA (Madrid Fair Institution). Throughout the event, Endesa, as a strategic partner, will have its own exhibition stand, organize activities, and actively participate by providing top-level speakers in congress sessions, showcasing that, at a crucial time like the present, it remains strongly committed to the energy transition, focusing on the promotion of clean electrification based on emission-free generation sources, as well as respect for biodiversity.
Day 1 (Monday, December 2) – Inauguration, solar honey, and 3D metaverse experience
To kick off CONAMA 2024, an opening event will take place, followed by a walk around the exhibition hall, with the presence of, among others, the new third vice president of the Government and Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen; the Environmental, Agriculture, and Interior Minister of the Community of Madrid, Carlos Novillo; the second Deputy Mayor and Delegate of the Urban Planning, Environment, and Mobility Area of the Madrid City Council, Borja Carabante; and the Director of the Conama Foundation, Alicia Torrego. From Endesa, the General Director of Institutional Relations and Regulation, José Casas, and the Environmental Manager, Jorge Pina, will attend.
Afterward, at 10:15 AM on Monday, visitors will be able to enjoy the presentation of the successful fair transition case "Solar Honey, Endesa's Energy", which demonstrates the compatibility of land use for both the industrial and primary sectors. This activity is part of its sustainability strategy of Creating Shared Value (Creating Shared Value or CSV), applied by the energy company to achieve the greatest integration of its facilities with the surrounding environment.
In this exhibition, the Head of Shared Value Projects and Circular Economy at Endesa, Paloma Aguirre, and her team will show how the energy company has successfully utilized the land at its photovoltaic plants, such as the one in Las Corchas, located in Carmona (Sevilla), for the agrivoltaics project of organic aromatic plant cultivation, allowing for the installation of solar beehives nearby, enabling the bees to enjoy an environment rich in biodiversity and free of pesticides, like the solar plant itself.
Moreover, to add excitement and experience to the activity, participants in this talk will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a metaverse created by Endesa through the use of 3D glasses. In this virtual space, everyone will become beekeepers, seeing firsthand how the work within the company's solar plants is carried out to take care of the crops and bees.
Day 2 (Tuesday, December 3) – Avifauna protective technologies
On the second day of the congress, Endesa will start its day at 9:00 AM with a presentation by José Casas, General Director of Institutional Relations and Regulation of the company, in a plenary session on the energy transition.
Later, at around 11:30 AM in room N117 of IFEMA Madrid, Endesa will hold a session titled "Avifauna and the Energy Transition", where a dialogue will be established with various stakeholders on how technology can help find the balance between renewable development and biodiversity conservation.
This exhibition will feature Jorge Pina, Environmental Manager of Endesa, as moderator; Rosa Parras, Wind Power Environmental Manager (Endesa); Luis Benavente, Zone Coordinator of the General Subdirectorate of Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity within the Directorate General for Biodiversity, Forests, and Desertification (Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge); Juan Carlos Atienza, Environmental Governance and International Agreements Manager at Seo BirdLife; and finally, three technologists, each responsible for presenting their respective technology for avifauna detection systems and wind turbine shutdowns.
After this session, later that same afternoon, at 3:30 PM, CONAMA 2024 will again experience what was already seen during the previous morning at the Endesa stand, as the energy company will once again present its fair transition and solar honey activity, including the virtual trip.
Full Endesa representation at CONAMA
Endesa will remain active throughout CONAMA 2024, as, although the sessions led by the energy company will take place in the first two days of the environmental congress, Endesa will have various representatives in the multiple talks and activities held until the end of the event on Thursday, December 5.
What will happen at CONAMA 2024?
CONAMA, already established as the main event in Spain to discuss and address issues related to sustainability and the environment, will bring together the best professionals that make up its community: companies, public administrations, scientists, associations, and environmental organizations.
According to a statement from the organization, and under the theme of this edition, 'Sharing to advance', CONAMA will bring together around 6,000 participants in over a hundred activities aimed at covering a “broad and multidisciplinary” perspective of the current environmental landscape. This will be possible thanks to the 45 technical committees responsible for designing the program, setting the topics, and debating “the multiple emerging solutions at a global level”.
This 17th edition aims to advocate for the union of “knowledge, diagnoses, and solutions” in tackling the climate crisis to combat “the uncertainty generated by denialist discourses”. Also, according to the statement, the goal will be to evolve towards “a more just and equitable development model” in nine areas: biodiversity; energy, efficiency, and climate change; circular economy; water management; mobility; urban renewal; environmental quality and health; waste; rural development; and economy and society.
