- Guillermo Soler Calero, currently commercial manager of the retail business (B2C) in Portugal, becomes the new CEO of Endesa in Portugal.
- The 51-year-old will lead the growth strategy in Portugal based on Pego's just transition project, the innovative renewable projects achieved in recent years in auctions, and the excellent commercial performance.
- Soler has been linked to Endesa for 24 years, where he has spent most of his professional career. For the last fourteen years, he has been commercial manager for the residential market in Portugal. Over this period, he has collaborated decisively to earn Endesa's place as the second electricity marketer in the country.
Guillermo Soler Calero, current commercial manager of Endesa's retail (B2C) business in Portugal, has been appointed Endesa's new CEO in this country. Graduated in Business Management and Administration from the International University of Catalonia in 1995, the 51-year-old has spent most of his professional career in positions of responsibility at Endesa in both Spain and Portugal.
Specifically, he arrived in Portugal in 2001 as head of indirect channels in the deregulated market. He possesses extensive knowledge and successful experience in managing teams and businesses, and has been one of the architects of the company's achievement as the second electricity marketer in the Portuguese market. Endesa has been operating as a retail marketer in Portugal since 2009.
With this appointment, Endesa reinforces its commitment as a key company in the development of the energy transition in Portugal. Last year, the company was awarded the first Just Energy Transition tender in Portugal, and for the whole of the Iberian Peninsula, derived from the closure of the Pego coal plant. The renewable development proposal, which includes the largest battery project in Europe and a socio-economic support plan, brings together an investment of 600 million euros and is the great milestone of the company's growth in the country over the coming years.
And there are also solar projects in 2020 in the Algarve (the first photovoltaic development with Endesa batteries in the Peninsula) and in 2022 in the Alto Rabagão reservoir (the company's first floating solar and hybridised project with wind energy and batteries in Iberia). In addition, Endesa has 3,000 MW of renewable energy to be developed in Portugal during the current decade.
Along with this, Soler Calero will consolidate the competitive and innovative position in the commercial business, both in the residential and business segments, where Endesa closed 2022 with a total of 677,000 electricity and gas customers.
