How much does it cost to register a new electricity supply point?
To register, you need to pay the fees of the electricity distribution company, which is the company responsible for making sure that your home receives electricity. These amounts are regulated and are the same regardless of your distribution company.
The following drop-down list includes a breakdown of the cost of registering a new supply point. These costs are paid to the distribution company, but they will be included in your first bill (sent by your retailer).
Charges | Description |
---|---|
Extension |
Paid to the distribution company for maintenance of the electrical infrastructure. They are paid when you register for the first time or when you need to re-connect a supply point that had been disconnected 3 or more years ago. These costs are usually borne by the developer/construction company, but the contract holder will be required to pay for the costs associated with an increase in the contracted power.
This amount is €17.37 (excluding VAT) per kW of contracted power. For the most common contracted power ratings in Spanish homes (3.45 kW - 4.6 kW), we would be talking about 60-80 euros in extension rights. |
Access |
These are the charges applied for using the electricity transmission network. They are paid when you register a new electricity supply point, re-connect an existing electricity supply point or increase the contracted power.
The cost is €19.70 (excluding VAT) per kW of contracted power. For the most common contracted power ratings in Spanish homes (3.45 kW - 4.6 kW), we would be talking about 70-90 euros in extension rights. |
Grid connection |
These are the charges applied for the connection of the supply point to the grid. They are paid when you register a new electricity supply point or re-connect an existing electricity supply point for a contract that had been cancelled. If the contract was cancelled due to unpaid bills, the customer will be asked to pay twice the amount. They are also charged when the contracted power is increased or reduced.
The cost is €9.04 (excluding VAT). |
Validation | The distribution company inspects the installation to make sure that it meets the necessary technical and safety requirement. Not charged if an electrical bulletin or CIE is submitted. |
Security deposit |
This is a deposit and it only applies to new registrations, increases in contracted power or re-connection of supply points.
The cost ranges from €10.54 to €13.10 per kW of electrical power. |
