The final phase of the 2019 Mini Cup will start to take shape this Monday, 14 January, by holding the draw of groups in a special edition of Colgados del Aro.
The basketball and humour programme that Endesa produces and broadcasts through the Experienceendesa website, its YouTube channel and its Social Networks is again hosting the draw for the tournament, whose 16th edition will be played in Madrid.
This special programme will be broadcast live on Monday 14 January at 4:15 p.m. through its YouTube channel and at ACB.COM, the official website of Liga Endesa. The presenters, Juanma López Iturriaga and Antoni Daimiel, will be accompanied by two young players who are now triumphing in the Liga Endesa, and in their younger days, they competed in the Endesa Mini Cup: Carlos Alocén (Tecnyconta Zaragoza), participant in the 2013 and 2014 editions, and Darío Brizuela (Movistar Estudiantes), who competed in the 2008 edition.
Competition Format
The preliminary phase of the Endesa Mini Cup was held at L’Alqueria del Basket in Valencia last December, and completed the portfolio of teams that will participate in the final tournament. Along with Real Madrid, current champion, and Movistar Estudiantes — the host team after winning a direct elimination game against Montakit Fuenlabrada — there will be Iberostar Canarias, Barça Lassa, Valencia Basket, Divina Seguros Joventut, Gran Canaria and Tecnyconta Zaragoza.
The final phase of the 2018 Endesa Mini Cup will consist of two groups of four teams, this year having the new feature that the tournament will start on Wednesday 13 February (one day before the King’s Cup starts), so that all teams will play one game per day. The two best of each group will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for Saturday 16 February. Endesa will allow basketball lovers to watch the entire Endesa Mini Cup on Facebook, and online at Endesabasketlover.com, they’ll be able to check out match-ups, results, anecdotes, photographs...everything related to this competition. On Instagram at endesa_basketlover and on Twitter, @basketlover, complete the access that Endesa offers to fans so they don’t miss this tournament.
All of the games will be played at the Antonio Magariños Athletic Complex, except for the grand finale, which will take place Sunday 17 February in the WiZink Center. In this way, they will emulate the “old guys”, who will battle that day to conquer the title of the King’s Cup on the same stage.
Mechanics of the Draw
For the draw of groups from the first phase, the eight teams have been distributed into two pods: one for the heads of series (the three teams with the best results in the Preliminary Phase and the current champion) and another for the other groups that qualified.
Pod 1 (heads of series)
- Real Madrid
- Iberostar Canarias
- Barça Lassa
- Valencia Basket
Pod 2
- Movistar Estudiantes
- Divina Seguros Joventut
- Gran Canaria
- Tecnyconta Zaragoza
A pure draw will be held, putting two teams from each pod into Group A and two teams from each pod into Group B.
