- Through agreements with Acción por el Mundo Salvaje (AMUS) and the Fundación CBD-Hábitat, the Endesa Foundation strengthens its commitment to biodiversity conservation and launches projects to protect species such as the Iberian lynx and the black vulture.
- As part of this new strategic approach, the Endesa Foundation is also working to establish partnerships with major national parks in Spain.
- The Endesa Foundation will contribute 2.2 million euros over the next three years to the development of ecosystem and wildlife conservation initiatives.
The Endesa Foundation strengthens its commitment to the protection and conservation of biodiversity by implementing new lines of action that expand and diversify its initiatives in this area. These actions represent a significant step towards a more holistic approach, where the preservation of emblematic endangered species and the restoration of vital ecosystems are the key pillars of the organization.
With this, the Endesa Foundation seeks to take direct action and expand its efforts in this area to protect the most threatened species in our country due to the impact of climate change and human activity, preserve their habitats, and promote the recovery of ecosystems as key elements of its biodiversity strategy.
In this context, the Endesa Foundation has signed agreements with Acción por el Mundo Salvaje (AMUS) and the Fundación CBD-Hábitat to collaborate on conservation projects for the black vulture and the Iberian lynx, respectively. These actions combine innovation, research, and active conservation, laying the groundwork for a balanced coexistence between human development and nature.
For the black vulture, the project includes the use of GPS devices to track individuals, allowing the identification of critical threats and providing deeper insight into the movement patterns of this species. Meanwhile, efforts focused on the Iberian lynx aim to strengthen its genetic connectivity, consolidate existing populations, and ensure the regeneration of its natural habitat, with specific actions such as improving shelters and continuously monitoring individuals.
In addition to these biodiversity projects, the Endesa Foundation is actively working to establish agreements with major national parks in Spain, with the aim of expanding its conservation efforts to strategically important natural environments. These collaborations will strengthen the ability to protect unique ecosystems and ensure the preservation of biodiversity in our country.
“The way we interact with our natural environment defines the legacy we leave for future generations,” said Juan Ignacio Ferrer, head of the Biodiversity area at the Endesa Foundation. “Our responsibility is not only to contribute to social development, but also to actively support biodiversity preservation. We believe one way to do this is by protecting emblematic species and ensuring the balance of ecosystems.”
With this new strategic focus, the Endesa Foundation reaffirms its commitment to a just and sustainable energy transition, which improves people's lives and the environment, integrating innovation, knowledge, and collaboration into each of its projects. “These actions represent much more than a response to environmental threats: they are a statement of principles and a call to action for society as a whole to get involved in protecting the planet. At a time when biodiversity faces unprecedented challenges, initiatives like these help preserve ecological balance and a sustainable legacy”, concludes Juan Ignacio Ferrer.
