- The Endesa Foundation has introduced a new grant programme aimed at identifying and supporting initiatives that directly contribute to the preservation of iconic bird and terrestrial wildlife species in Spain.
- This nationwide programme is open to non-profit organisations legally established in Spain. Applications may be submitted through the Endesa Foundation website from 15 September to 17 October 2025, with a subscription form already available for updates and reminders throughout the process.
- A total of €200,000 will be allocated to selected projects, divided into two grants of €100,000 each —one for each of the programme’s categories.
- This initiative is part of the Endesa Foundation’s biodiversity strategy within its 2024–2027 strategic plan.
The first edition of Endesa Foundation’s grant programme focused on biodiversity projects seeks to identify and support initiatives that make a direct and effective contribution to the preservation of emblematic species in Spain. This nationwide programme targets non-profit organisations legally established in Spain and will be backed by a total budget of €200,000. With this new effort, the Foundation reaffirms its commitment to the environment, focusing on actions that generate both ecological and social impact.
Projects may be submitted under two main categories: ‘Protection and preservation of iconic bird species’ and ‘Conservation of vulnerable or endangered terrestrial species.’ Two projects —one per category— will be selected and awarded €100,000 each to fund their implementation, which must align with the programme’s official guidelines and requirements set forth in its terms and conditions.
Applications can be submitted from 15 September to 17 October 2025, exclusively via the form on the Endesa Foundation’s official website —available starting 15 September. All details regarding requirements, schedules, and procedures are available on the Endesa Foundation’s official website, along with a subscription form for reminders and updates:
The Foundation encourages interested organisations to use the summer months to prepare their proposals thoroughly, ensuring strong and well-planned submissions.
‘With this new call, we aim to expand our impact on biodiversity protection by supporting organisations working on the ground that share our commitment to conservation,’ said María Malaxechevarría, General Director of the Endesa Foundation.
Endesa Foundation’s new biodiversity strategy
This grant programme is part of the Foundation’s new strategic approach to biodiversity, which focuses on protecting emblematic species and restoring habitats threatened by climate change and human activity.
The Foundation is already collaborating with organisations such as Acción por el Mundo Salvaje (AMUS) and Fundación CBD-Hábitat on projects dedicated to the conservation of the black vulture and the Iberian lynx, respectively. Another cornerstone of this strategy is active collaboration with Spain’s main National Parks, including Teide National Park in Tenerife, where two projects of high ecological value are underway. In collaboration with the Island Council of Tenerife and the Fundación Universidad de Valladolid, ancient cedar trees in hard-to-reach areas are being catalogued and studied to contribute to their preservation and scientific knowledge. In addition, together with the Council and Agroforestal, efforts are underway to restore endangered endemic species such as the Guajara violet and the silver thistle.
With this first call for biodiversity grants, the Endesa Foundation strengthens its role as an active agent in biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, it also reinforces its commitment to a just energy transition that integrates nature preservation as a core element of sustainable development.
