- In the coming weeks, when activities in Logrosán, Casas de Don Pedro and Talarrubia reach their peak, this figure will rise to 900 jobs.
- 70% of this is regional employment, which has been promoted by the training courses organised by Endesa in the area, the percentage placement of which already exceeds 50% and will increase in the near future.
- Enel Green Power España invests €200 million in these facilities, which will be completed in December 2019.
Works on six photovoltaic plants which Endesa’s renewables division, Enel Green Power España (EGPE), is building in Extremadura already generate 660 direct jobs, a figure that will rise to 900 jobs over the coming weeks, when the projects reach their peak.
The plants are being developed in the municipalities of Logrosán (Cáceres), where three of them are located, and Casas de Don Pedro and Talarrubias, in Badajoz, where the other three are located. Endesa's joint investment between the six stands at around €200 million and the completion date is expected to be in December this year.
In the case of Logrosán, works, which began in September 2018, are more advanced. Enel Green Power España already carries out all solar plant activities there, including the assembly of solar panels. 400 people are working on this project, which operates at full capacity and, in the coming weeks, this figure with rise to 500.
On the other hand, the construction work in Casas de Don Pedro and Talarrubias, which began at the end of November, is also progressing at a good pace and is near reaching its maximum performance, with the expectation of starting the assembly of panels in the coming weeks. The works currently generate 240 jobs and, in the coming weeks, they will reach their peak, with 400 jobs.
The works in both Logrosán and Casas de Don Pedro and Talarrubias are not only generating direct jobs, but 70% of them are regional jobs.
To promote the creation of jobs amongst unemployment people in the community, Endesa, via EGPE and within its plan to create shared value, carried out training activities in both the municipality of Cáceres and in that of Badajoz on assembly in structures and solar panels.
These courses, which have already reached a placement level of around 50%, which will increase when the works reach their peak, have benefited 260 unemployed people, who have received free training and have not only obtained the possibility of finding a job, but also the opportunity to learn a technical trade in a booming sector in Extremadura, specifically and in Spain, in general. In addition to this training in panel assembly, it is planned that, in the coming months, two courses will also be carried out aimed at improving the employability of people with a certain level of training (average professional training in electricity), focused on people who can work in operation and maintenance.
Endesa's three photovoltaic facilities in Logrosán -Baylio, Dehesa de los Guadalupes and Furatena -will have a capacity of over 42 megawatts each (127 MW in total) and approximately €100 million is being invested for their construction. Once they are fully operational, the solar facilities, comprising around 372,000 units, will have the capacity to generate over 240 GWh per year, avoiding the annual emission of approximately 120,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
On the other hand, Endesa’s three solar plants in Casas de Don Pedro and Talarrubias -Navalvillar, Valdecaballero and Castilblanco- will have an output of over 42 MW each and approximately €100 million is being invested for their construction. Once they are fully operational, the solar facilities, comprising over 372,000 units, will have the capacity to generate approximately 250 GWh per year, avoiding the annual emission of over 165,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
In all cases, the construction of the projects is based on Enel Green Power's "Sustainable Construction Site", which includes the use of renewable energy during construction via a 20 kW photovoltaic system that meets the work's energy needs.
The construction of the plant includes efficient, low-consumption lighting, as well as responsible waste management and information to the public, via an information panel and contact details for any questions on the social actions accompanying the construction of the plants.
In addition, on completion of the works, the panels installed for the provision of renewables for said construction will be donated to the municipalities to grant them public use. Prior to the donation, energy audits will be conducted in public buildings (including the FEMAR residential home in Logrosán) which will receive the donations, with the aim of promoting energy efficiency.
EGPE also uses some innovative construction processes and equipment at these sites, including remote-controlled aircraft for surveying, the smart monitoring of certain components, such as solar panels, main transformers and cables, as well as advanced digital platforms and software solutions to monitor the progress and quality of the construction and provide remote support to the site activities and start-up of the plants. These practices and tools enable a faster, more accurate and reliable collection of data, improving the quality of the construction and facilitating communication between on-site and off-site teams.
The plants are part of the 339 MW of solar power awarded to Enel Green Power España following the Spanish government's third renewable energy auction in July 2017. Out of the seven projects awarded to EGPE in last year's tender, one is located in Murcia (the Totana plant, on which construction began in September) and the six remaining projects are located in Extremadura. EGPE was also awarded a wind power capacity of 540 MW in the auctions of May 2017. The 879 MW of wind and solar capacity awarded in these auctions will involve a total investment of over €800 million up to 2020. Once the solar and wind projects have been completed, EGPE's current portfolio will increase by 52.4%.
Endesa currently manages over 6,526 MW of renewable capacity in Spain. Of this figure, 4,710 MW are from conventional hydroelectric generation. The rest, over 1,816 MW, are managed via EGPE and come from wind power (1,750 MW), mini-hydroelectric power (52 MW) and other sources of renewable energy (14 MW).
Enel Green Power, the global renewable energy business line of the Enel Group, of which Endesa is part, is dedicated to the development and operation of renewables worldwide, with a presence in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Enel Green Power is a global leader in the green energy sector, with a managed capacity of around 43 GW in a generation combination that includes wind, solar, geothermal and hydroelectric and is at the forefront of the integration of innovative technologies in renewable power plants.
