Endesa, through its renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power Spain (EGPE), has begun the construction of Envatios I, II, and III, three solar plants located in the municipality of Carmona, which is a clear commitment by the company to renewable development in Andalusia.
Endesa’s new infrastructure increases the number of solar plants in the province of Seville to eleven, with a total installed capacity of 131.22 MW, and will be able to produce 257 GWh annually, equivalent to the yearly energy consumption of around 65,000 households. Over 250 people will work on its construction, specialized labor for solar plant assembly tasks. Since 2020, Endesa has been promoting training courses in photovoltaic panel installation and solar plant operation and maintenance, training more than 500 people in the province of Seville, aiming to train and encourage local specialized workforce.
These new solar plants by Endesa will also have added value, as the construction will use state-of-the-art technology, such as the use of drones for worksite supervision, Smart Glasses for remote assistance, and safety technology with special sensors on heavy machinery that stop movement when detecting workers in the safety perimeter.
Moreover, the “Sustainable Construction Site” model by Enel Green Power Spain will be applied, including the installation of photovoltaic solar panels to cover part of the energy needs during construction, water-saving measures with the installation of tanks and rainwater collection systems, electric vehicle chargers, and efficient lighting. Once the work is completed, all this equipment will be donated to the municipality of Carmona for use in public facilities.
But Endesa’s renewable subsidiary, Enel Green Power Spain, is going even further with its projects, integrating renewable plants into the environments where they are built. This is what the company has done at all its solar plants, including the latest one, Dulcinea, in the province of Seville, launched last year with a capacity of 95.17 MW. The company combines its solar installations with grazing by local farmers, whose sheep graze in the plants helping with natural land clearing and providing the shepherd with a safe environment, with pesticide-free pasture. Furthermore, ecological corridors have been created at Endesa’s solar plants, leading to installations such as Las Corchas and Los Naranjos obtaining the UNEF Sustainability Seal.
And it goes even further. At the Carmona plants, Endesa installed the first solar apiary producing the trademarked Solar Honey, allowing over 80,000 bees to coexist with the renewable installation. Additionally, to support the pollination work of this key species in the environment, agrivoltaic farming between solar panels has been carried out with aromatic plants. But that’s not all; fauna proliferation is also being promoted with the installation of nests, perches, insect hotels, and drinking stations at solar plants in Huelva, Seville, and Malaga. At all these plants, there has been an improvement and proliferation of avifauna and biodiversity in general, as the solar fields provide a safe environment for nesting, food free of pesticides, and protection from agro-industrial pressure.
Endesa operates 71 renewable plants in Andalusia, 11 of which are solar, 12 are wind, 1 is biomass, and 48 are hydroelectric. Through EGPE, the company is finalizing a new project in the province of Seville, the 86.18 MW Aljarafe solar plant, while continuing to study the development of new renewable projects in this region.
