- The company strengthens its commitment to the environment through a comprehensive agreement that promotes the use of renewable energy, electric mobility, and the installation of photovoltaic systems across all its warehouses.
GLS Spain reinforces its commitment to sustainability through a global agreement with Endesa. Thanks to the leadership of both companies in their respective sectors, they will continue to drive the transition to a low-carbon economy. This strategic agreement, focused on reducing the environmental impact of their activities, covers three key areas: energy, mobility, and photovoltaics.
In the energy sector, GLS Spain has secured a fixed-price energy supply, which will allow them to manage their resources more efficiently. This contract covers all the company's electricity supplies in Spain, approximately 10 GWh, and guarantees that 100% of the energy will come from certified renewable sources.
Another key area of this agreement is mobility, which will enable GLS Spain to advance the electrification of its fleet and meet the charging needs both inside and outside its facilities.
On one hand, Endesa will be responsible for the supply and, in some cases, the installation of more than 100 charging points for GLS warehouses in Spain. Up to 19 locations across the country will feature chargers with various power outputs, including ultra-fast charging (300kW), mainly dedicated to its delivery fleet. Additionally, both companies are working to make this charging infrastructure available to all employees, thus facilitating their transition to electric mobility if they wish.
Thanks to this agreement, GLS Spain's fleet will be able to charge not only at its own facilities but also on Endesa's public charging network under favorable conditions, a benefit that will also extend to GLS employees.
The third key area of this global agreement is self-consumption. Endesa has already begun installing a solar photovoltaic plant, which will cover approximately 30% of GLS's energy needs. This first self-consumption installation is being carried out at GLS's facilities in Coslada, but the goal is to equip all its infrastructure with its own solar energy in the coming years, further strengthening its commitment to clean and renewable energy.
Endesa has carried out this project under the 'turnkey' model, which includes the calculation, design, manufacturing, supply, transport, insurance, installation, and commissioning of the self-consumption plant. This first project at the GLS plant features a solar collection area of more than 300 square meters and a capacity of 78 kWp, with 155 solar panels installed. This is the first plant of many to come at other locations, with plans to continue developing self-consumption solar plants and implement this technology in as many of the 19 locations as possible.
"This agreement with Endesa reflects our commitment to lead the transition towards a more sustainable business model. We are convinced that every step counts, and this is a significant advance in reducing our carbon footprint and improving efficiency at all levels of our operations," said Daniel López, Quality & Environmental Director at GLS Spain.
For Davide Ciciliato, General Director of Commercialization at Endesa, "The clock on climate change is ticking inexorably, and many companies have their roadmaps to reduce their environmental impact. At Endesa, we help them design personalized decarbonization energy strategies with a 360° approach."
In this way, GLS Spain not only reaffirms its commitment to protecting the environment but also solidifies its leadership in sustainability within the logistics sector.
