- This year, the Company has taken action in 1,377 electrical installations distributed throughout Andalusia.
With the aim of preserving and protecting the wealth of birdlife to be found in Andalusia, for a decade now Endesa has been promoting measures to insulate and identify electricity networks. A commitment which in the last two years has involved doubling investments with more than €4 million invested in actions throughout the community
The plan developed by Endesa includes measures taken in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment of the Regional Government of Andalusia, as a result of an agreement signed in 2019 that created a roadmap aimed at safeguarding native birdlife. This involved Endesa investing over €2 million in actions this year, activating a broad range of improvements at 1,377 points in the distribution network.
The measures taken range from covering cables and line visualisation systems, to insulation in High- and Medium-Voltage towers, in addition to the 2,641 actions taken in electrical installations throughout the region over the last two years that have resulted most notably in the improvement of the interaction between electrical installations and the birds.
Endesa's commitment has enabled specific measures to be developed for the protection of the European roller and the griffon vulture. This species has a strong presence in Huelva due to the cooperation between Endesa and Seprona that has enabled incidents to be detected and immediately remedied by installing protection measures.
The adoption of these measures is in addition to collaboration with a number of administrations to develop actions to improve the protection of the birdlife that included organising informative workshops for personnel and the collaborating companies. The company is also promoting the use of innovative technologies in areas where there is the greatest influx of species, assessing the effectiveness of the use of manufactured insulated cables in supports and assessing the effectiveness of sound detection devices.
This protection plan is part of a commitment signed between Endesa and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, consisting of a commitment to join forces with a view to developing projects to adapt the power lines. This resulted in the creation of a joint monitoring committee and a technical working group to discover any points that could be dangerous so that the company may act immediately by adopting measures to protect the birds.
