- Uber has committed globally to ensuring that by 2030, 100% of trips made on its platform will be emission-free worldwide.
- Thanks to this agreement, drivers and fleet operators associated with the Uber platform will have access to Endesa’s entire public charging infrastructure under special conditions.
- Currently, Endesa has implemented 6,200 charging points across Spain. 42% of these points feature fast or ultra-fast charging technology, available in both urban environments and on roadways. - All public access chargers installed by Endesa are powered by 100% clean energy from renewable sources with guarantees of origin.
Endesa and Uber have signed an agreement to promote electric transportation in Spain. From now on, electric vehicle drivers working with Uber - expected to surpass 1,000 in Madrid by 2025 - will have easier access to Endesa’s charging network. This catalogue already includes 6,200 charging points across roadways, urban, and peri-urban areas.
This agreement helps Uber fulfil its commitment to ensure that 100% of trips in Europe, the United States, and Canada will be made using electric vehicles by 2030. Furthermore, it aims to become a zero-emission platform worldwide by 2040 in over 10,000 cities across the six continents in which it operates.
The partnership between Endesa and Uber includes a competitive offer, which allows drivers to enjoy special charging conditions through the Endesa charging app. They are also provided with a unique and exclusive pricing structure regardless of the charging technology used. Additionally, the app’s features enable users to easily plan their travel routes with the best charging point itinerary along the way, filter and save their favourite charging points for quick access, and receive new in-app updates to track their tariff renewal dates.
‘At Endesa, we have always said that our goal is to be enablers of electric transportation. We aim to be able to support Uber in such a strategic endeavour, including at a national level, which makes us even more committed,’ said Davide Ciciliato, General Manager of Endesa’s commercial division.
‘At Uber, we want to lead the transition towards more sustainable mobility. This agreement with Endesa is key to our goal of becoming a zero-emission platform by providing drivers with access to a broad and affordable public charging network,’ stated Lola Vilas, Uber Spain’s Country Manager.
This new agreement is part of Uber’s broader commitment to electrification. The company recently hosted the second edition of GO-GET Zero, its annual climate-focused event in London. On this occasion, it showcased its latest sustainability initiatives.
Globally, the number of electric vehicles on Uber’s platform has tripled since last year, with over 180,000 drivers now using EVs for their Uber trips.
In May of this year, the company also launched UberX Share, its carpooling service designed to offer more affordable rides while moving more people with fewer vehicles. Therefore, it contributes to emissions reductions and easing traffic congestion.
Charging solutions
For more than a decade, Endesa has been committed to facilitating electric transportation for all users. This includes not only urban charging solutions adapted for parking lots, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and more but also a strong focus on urban and peri-urban charging, as well as ultra-fast roadway charging to ensure users have no doubts about making long-distance trips. As part of its public charging infrastructure development plan, Endesa has implemented 6,200 charging points across Spain with various technologies. More than 42% of these feature fast or ultra-fast charging capabilities, available both in urban environments and on roadways. Out of these, around 820 points are equipped with ultra-fast technology, with power outputs between 150 kW and 300 kW, predominantly located near roadways.
In 2024 alone, Endesa has activated more than 1,000 charging points across Spain, with another 2,100 currently in development and more than 1,100 installed but pending activation. The company’s goal for the coming years is to continue expanding its charging network in line with market growth, ensuring charging solutions are available wherever customers need them. Endesa will continue to install charging stations of all capacities, particularly focusing on fast and ultra-fast options, as part of a roll-out strategy that considers various user habits.
