- The chargers are located in 36 establishments of the chain, spread across 19 different provinces. By regions, Catalonia has the highest number of charging stations, followed by the Canary Islands and the Valencian Community, among others.
- The agreement will allow compliance with regulations requiring the installation of charging points in certain public access areas, and they can be used by both those making purchases at the sales points and those who need to charge their vehicles during their travels.
- The majority of the locations with charging stations (26) are or will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Various charging technologies (ultra-fast up to 300 kW, fast, and semi-fast) have been strategically installed according to locations and needs.
- Transgourmet Ibérica, a leading company in the hospitality distribution sector and proximity supermarkets, has relied on Endesa to continue contributing to decarbonizing the transportation sector and mobility in line with its sustainability strategy.
- In its commitment to a more sustainable and efficient logistics model, Transgourmet already has a fleet of over one hundred hybrid cars and recently added an electric truck for delivering its food and beverage assortment.
Endesa, the leading operator of integrated energy solutions and charging points, and Transgourmet Ibérica, a reference in hospitality distribution and proximity supermarkets, have launched an ambitious electric vehicle charging infrastructure project. This involves the installation of 134 charging points spread across 36 parking lots of GM Cash-Gros Mercat establishments, Transgourmet’s cash-and-carry chain for the hospitality sector.
The chargers, installed by Endesa in GM Cash-Gros Mercat parking lots, are located in 11 regions (Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Madrid, the Basque Country, and the Murcia Region), and specifically, in 19 provinces and islands (Cádiz, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Albacete, Burgos, Salamanca, Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Tarragona, Alacant, Castelló, Eivissa, Menorca, La Rioja, Madrid, Álava, and Murcia). Notably, Catalonia has the highest number of charging points (62), followed by the Canary Islands and the Valencian Community, both with 18 charging points.
Davide Ciciliato, General Director of Commercialization at Endesa, highlighted that "this partnership represents an important milestone in our strategy to promote sustainable and electric mobility. We have tailored the project so that these charging stations in Transgourmet's parking lots offer a comprehensive solution for electric vehicle drivers, both for those who want to charge their car while shopping at one of the establishments and for those who need to recharge quickly to continue their journey, as the locations are highly convenient."
Albert Pérez, Sustainability Manager at Transgourmet, stated that “this initiative is part of our commitment to sustainability and improving the shopping experience for our customers. We want to make electric mobility more accessible, allowing our customers to charge their vehicles while shopping. It is an important step in our sustainability strategy, reflecting our dedication to offering solutions that help reduce emissions and protect the environment.”
Charging Points: A Path Towards Sustainability
Most of the locations with charging stations (26) are or will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, while the remaining 10 will allow charging during the cash-and-carry center's hours.
In particular, different charging technologies have been installed based on their location and to meet users' needs:
- 12 ultra-fast 300 kW charging points to charge in 10-20 minutes: located at 3 strategic locations near high-capacity roads: Girona (AP-7), Montcada (C-58), and Adeje (TF-1).
- 62 ultra-fast 150 kW charging points to charge in 15-25 minutes: located in 31 parking lots, ideal for users who need to charge quickly.
- 8 fast 50/60 kW charging points to charge in 45-60 minutes: spread across 6 locations, perfect for a quick stop while shopping.
- 52 semi-fast 22 kW charging points to charge in 120-180 minutes: located at 27 sites, for those who charge while shopping.
54% of these charging points, 72, are already installed and operational, while the remaining 62 points are in various phases such as awaiting connection to the electrical grid, under construction, or in the process of obtaining permits and licenses (as in the case of the installations with 300 kW chargers). All of them are chargers that meet European standards, meaning they can service all electric vehicle models on the market because they allow charging in both direct current (CCS2 or Combo 2) and alternating current (Type 2 or Mennekes).
In its commitment to a more sustainable and efficient logistics model, Transgourmet already has around one hundred hybrid cars in its fleet across Spain and recently added an electric truck for delivering food and beverage products to hospitality clients in the Barcelona area.
Environmental Commitment: 100% Renewable Energy
This initiative complements Transgourmet's sustainability strategy and strengthens its partnership with Endesa, as the utility has been supplying Transgourmet with up to 54.6 GW/h/year of 100% renewable energy, certified with Renewable Origin Guarantees, since last year. Additionally, the charging points also use entirely renewable energy, making the electric vehicle charging process sustainable.
In its commitment to a more sustainable and efficient logistics model, Transgourmet already has around one hundred hybrid cars in its fleet across Spain and recently added an electric truck for delivering food and beverage products to hospitality clients in the Barcelona area.
Furthermore, the company continues to progress with its renovation plan for cash-and-carry centers, installing solar panels for self-consumption, switching to LED lighting, applying CO2-free refrigerant technology, upgrading equipment to more energy-efficient models, and implementing a recycling system at GM Cash-Gros Mercat sales points and platforms.
How to Use the Chargers?
Regarding the charging process, reservation, use, and payment for the service can be done easily through Endesa's electric mobility app. Users simply need to download the app on their phone, and with it, they can manage their electric vehicle charges directly from their phone (pay, reserve up to 15 minutes in advance, etc.) and access tariffs adapted to all users, with both monthly charging plans and pay-per-use options, so they only pay for what is charged.
The app is available on iOS and Android, and users can sign up directly with their Facebook or Google account or by providing an email address. Additionally, by registering, users can enjoy advantageous pricing conditions for charging, thanks to the existing charging rates, and create their account with their preferences and payment methods, which will streamline future charges. In any case, registration is optional, and users can choose to use the app without prior registration and pay directly with a credit card.
Charging Solutions
With this partnership, Endesa advances in its commitment to facilitate electric mobility for all users with charging types adapted to various uses in parking lots, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, etc.; and also provides ultra-fast charging on highways to ensure users have no doubts when making long-distance trips. In fact, Endesa, as part of its public charging infrastructure development plan, has deployed nearly 6,000 charging points across Spain, covering all technologies (more than 1,400 in Catalonia).
Endesa's goal for the coming years remains to expand the charging network to support market growth and provide charging solutions to customers wherever needed.
