- Before starting out in the world of work, the electricity company gave a talk to inform students and teachers about the work done by e-distribución, Endesa's network subsidiary, and the work that young people will have to do during their internships in the contracting companies.
- This training takes place in 11 schools in all the provinces in Andalusia and aims to improve the employability of young people in a professional sector with a strong growth forecast for the coming years.
The students at the IES Politécnico and the IES Albert Einstein in the city of Seville are beginning their internships in the distribution networks sector as a result of a dual training programme launched by e-distribución, the Endesa's network subsidiary, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Regional Government of Andalusia.
Before starting out in the world of work, the students of both schools had a first contact with the electricity company, led by Juan Fernando Ramírez Rincón, from the Safety, Health and Environment Area in Andalusia and Extremadura, and Víctor Bazaga, Endesa's Head of distribution in Seville, who made those attending aware of the work of e-distribución within the electricity system. They also detailed the work that these young people will have to dot during their internship, which aims to consist of training that is comprehensive and in accordance with the demands of companies in this sector.
The objectives of this programme include bringing students closer to the needs and ways of working in companies in the electricity sector and preparing new generations to build their professional career in the electricity distribution networks area where there are currently great prospects for development and professional opportunities. They are also seeking to attract talent to companies in the sector and, above all, female talent to this type of technical training.
After an initial period of training, the students from these secondary schools will begin to combine theoretical learning on how to operate in electricity networks, including innovative training related to work on low voltage, at a height and in underground installations, with internships in Endesa's contracting companies. This will enable them to become familiar with practical aspects and begin to be aware of the corporate culture and especially of the importance that Endesa and its contractors attach to safety.
The initiative involves the inclusion of a module of 130 hours within the existing VT programmes in the Higher Degree cycles in Electrotechnical and Automated Systems and Intermediate Degree in Electrical and Automatic Installations. 136 Andalusian students from 14 Vocational Training institutes that provide Dual VT will be able to participate in this training.
The programme takes place in 26 institutes in 22 cities and will enhance the training of 240 students in aspects related to safety issues for working on the network, giving young people first-hand experience in field work which ultimately enables electricity to reach homes and businesses.
Career opportunities
According to data from the Statistics on Labour Market Insertion for Vocational Training Graduates, Dual VT has the highest rate of labour market insertion among the different types of vocational training. In the first year after completing the Intermediate Level, half of dual VT students find work, a percentage that increases to two thirds in the case of Higher Vocational Training.
In the coming years there will be a sustained demand for professionals in areas such as distribution networks that, according to the report entitled Connecting the dots: Deloitte's distribution grid investment to power the energy transition will require an investment of between €375,000 million and €425,000 million in the 2020-2030 period in the EU27+ UK.
Endesa has placed distribution networks among its priorities for the coming years. In the 2022-2024 period alone, €2,900 million will be invested in the development, modernisation and expansion of the network managed by its e-distribución subsidiary, of which €1,300 million will be allocated to the digitalisation of infrastructures to improve their efficiency and resilience. And by the end of 2030, the investment figure will reach €12,000 million.
Endesa's distribution network currently extends over 316,500 kilometres, a distance equivalent to almost eight times round the earth.
Commitment to excellence in training
Endesa, in its commitment to the academic world as a driver of excellence in research and in the creation and development of talent, maintains a close relationship with the universities in Andalusia to promote projects that contribute to the progress of our community.
A clear example of this is the Endesa Chair that since 2004 has been developed in collaboration with the University of Seville to promote the doctoral programme of the Hispalense called "Electricity systems" and to grant an award to the best Final Career Project and the best Final Degree Project on a factor corresponding to the company's activities.
The Endesa Foundation is also developing a number of initiatives to promote the talent and innovation capacity of young Andalusians. One of these programmes is RetoTech, which seeks to promote STEM vocations and technological entrepreneurship; the Eco-innovation Awards, which are undertaken in collaboration with the European Society and Education Foundation and which reward projects focussing on the promotion of responsibility, commitment and cooperation in the preservation of the environment, and the 'Endesa Educa' programme, with which it has been disseminating knowledge with regard to energy and sustainability for more than 30 years, showing how the energy world works and how it can be used efficiently and rationally.
In the previous edition of the RetoTech programme, the CEIP San Jorge de Palos de la Frontera (Huelva), the CEIP Nuestra Señora de Loreto de Dos Torres (Córdoba), the IES Almicerán de Peal de Becerro (Jaén) and the CEIP Híspalis de Sevilla, monopolised the four prizes that were distributed nationally demonstrating the talent of the Andalusians.
They also excelled in the Ecoinnovation Awards, in which 147 educational centres from all over Spain participated, with the IES Vicente Aleixandre in Seville obtaining the first prize in the 'Solving an environmental problem' category while the IES Alto Almanzora of Almería took the first prize in the 'Improve your environment' category.
