- 667 young adults have participated in the programme created by Endesa Foundation and Youth Business Spain, the global reference in youth self-employment.
- 159 of them were hired to existing positions, and in addition, 341 new jobs were created.
Since the programme’s inception in January 2017, the Endesa Foundation—promoter of youth professional and educational development—has trained nearly 700 young adults, who have benefited from the training to develop entrepreneurial skills, Compe10cias LED, through the network of local partners of Youth Business Spain.
The programme is intended for young adults between the ages of 18 and 35 years of age who have a business idea, but do not have the necessary resources to implement it. This is being held in Andalusia, Aragon, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Madrid, Extremadura, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Comunidad Valenciana and Galicia.
This programme, unique in Spain, is focussed on teaching the 10 key skills for generating a change of behaviour in young entrepreneurs: searching for opportunities and initiatives, assuming calculated risks, persistence, fulfilling commitments, demanding efficiency and quality, setting goals, searching for information, systematic planning and monitoring, persuasion and support networks, and finally, self-confidence and independence.
Through these disciplines, one of the greatest challenges for young adults has been creating 199 companies, including two that have reached the broader public and their products are having a great impact. One of them is “Food for Tomorrow”, a startup from the food-tech sector dedicated to revolutionising foods based on vegetable proteins, creating a new ingredient called Heura, acclaimed by vegans and vegetarians, and even meat-eaters who try it think that they are eating meat. The other is “Neki”, a company that creates devices (watches, belts, purses and pendants) that provide autonomy to elderly people. The devices have a hidden GPS so that the person wearing them can be monitored by their family via their mobile phone or computer with alerts in case of emergency. “Foods for Tomorrow” won the most innovative startup award at the Food Factory Awards of the 2018 Food Fair, and the “2018 Best Innovation” from the Basque Culinary Center. Moreover, two additional companies created during the programme stood out last year at the South Summit, representing the Compe10cias LED programme in our junior entrepreneurship area: Mayores Sonrisas and 7nyxdevelopers.
In the words of Gloria Juste, Project Director of the Endesa Foundation: “In our foundation, we have a clear mission: to shed light on people’s talent, providing them with the tools they need to achieve their goals. For example, with programmes like Compe10cias LED, we foster the entrepreneurial talent of those who have business ideas but do not have the necessary resources to implement them. It is greatly satisfying to see how these businesses get ahead and we generate a real impact on the job market”.
“Thanks to the Endesa Foundation, Youth Business Spain has completed its offering of support services for young adults with a programme to develop entrepreneurial skills to promote the creation of innovative and sustainable companies in Spain”, explained Sara Simón, Director of the Youth Business Spain Foundation.
Compe10cias LED has the objective of enabling the creation of 300 new companies and 500 new jobs through educating 1,188 young adults between 2017 and 2019.
An innovative skills training programme with an experiential methodology that generates a real change of behaviour in young adults.
