- This project seeks to promote interest among adolescents and young people in the study of careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as to eliminate the barriers of gender stereotypes.
- It is aimed at teachers and career officers throughout Spain whose role will be to act as mediators and agents of change and help young people explore the skills and abilities necessary to be able to direct their studies.
- It is estimated that more than 1,000 students between the ages of 12 and 18 will participate in this second edition of the project.
According to the Data and Figures from the Spanish University System report by the Ministry of Universities [1], the number of students registered for STEM courses (studies in the branches of science, technology, engineering and mathematics) decreased significantly over the last 15 years, and specifically by -38% in the fields of engineering and architecture and -15% in science.
Recognising this, the Endesa Foundation and Fad Juventud are launching the second edition of the 'Impacto STEM' project, an educational programme that aims to promote interest in studying careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics among adolescents and young people, as well as break down the barriers that hinder this mission: Gender stereotypes.
The project is aimed at teachers and school careers officers of secondary and Baccalaureate students throughout Spain to serve as mediators and change agents within the educational setting, and it is estimated that over a thousand students will benefit from this initiative.
As participants, their role will be to introduce students between the ages of 12 and 18 to the field of STEM and help them explore the skills and abilities needed to focus their studies. For this purpose, free educational resources and technology tools will be provided that will help them carry out various activities with students, aimed at broadening their horizons and awakening an interest in STEM careers.
The ‘Impacto STEM’ project offers six distinct practical activities for groups between 12 and 15 and 16 and 18 years of age, in which students will have the opportunity learn about STEM studies and professions and the skills and abilities associated with these careers and explore the necessary aptitudes and their own capabilities. They will also receive vocational guidance from more than 50 secondary and Baccalaureate teachers and professionals from the academic sector.
