Environmental management
At Endesa we carry out our activities in an environmentally friendly way and we are committed to the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals
SDG 12: Responsible production and consumption
SDG 13: Climate action
At Endesa we consider environmental excellence to be an essential value in our business culture. We engage in our activities with respect for the environment, in line with the principles of sustainable development, and we are firmly committed to the conservation and sustainable use of the resources that we use.
This commitment also extends to our suppliers, who are required to implement environmental policies based on these same principles, covering all the processes in the value chain (supply of raw materials, manufacturing processes, logistics, etc.).
The assessment of the environmental risks associated with the company’s activities and the environmental certificates granted by external bodies help to ensure the excellence of our environmental management, which is integrated into and aligned with our corporate strategy.

Decarbonising the energy mix and minimising the environmental impact of our activities are two of the main areas in which we are working to promote a sustainable business model and reduce our direct environmental footprint by 32% by 2023 (vs. 2019). The following graph summarises our environmental objectives for the coming years:
In, 2020 we reduced our footprint by 56% versus 2019. This is a significant improvement mainly due to the gradual end to coal thermal generation activity and reduced activity from generation technologies due to the unusual situation this year.
At Endesa, we are firmly committed to reducing our environmental footprint and therefore we are looking forward to tackling the goal of continuing to reduce it by another 32% by 2023.
We are firmly committed to the safe management of our nuclear activity, as expressed in the Nuclear Policy approved by the Board of Directors in 2011 and published on the website of the companies operating in this activity. This policy sets out the commitment to act in such a way that all nuclear activities, whether Endesa is a majority or minority shareholder, have as their main priorities: The safety and protection of workers, the public and the environment, as well as the promotion of excellence in all activities, going beyond mere compliance with legal requirements.
