How to know how much electricity your house consumes?

There are all kinds of inventions and formulas for finding out how much electricity your house is consuming at all times. But there is only one infallible method. Why waste time and money on gadgets and tricks when it is possible to know the exact figure?

Before we start calculating what you are really spending on electricity, there are two things you need to know:

1. You are not going to need to add, subtract or multiply. It will be easy and fast.

2. The electricity you consume accounts for approximately half of what you pay for on your bill. The rest is for the power contracted and different taxes. If you want more information, we recommend you read up on how to fully understand your electricity bill.

The electricity your home consumes

Everything that is plugged in ends up consuming electricity, even when it is turned off. In fact, you may be spending about 5 euros a month on devices in stand-by mode.

The electricity your house consumes is measured in kWh. This is a unit of measurement you should not confuse with the kW used to measure the power. kW refer to how much energy a domestic appliance needs at a specific time. kWh tell us is how many kW were needed over an entire hour.

The sum of all your light bulbs, all your domestic appliances (refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, etc.) and other things you plug in (mobile chargers, for example,) ends up resulting in a number of kWh.

kWh have a price. This price may be the same for all hours of the day and every day of the week. Or it may be higher/lower depending on the time and day. This depends on the rate you have contracted. In the Endesa catalogue you will find electricity rates that will adapt to your profile.

“By knowing how many kWh you consume you will know how much you are going to pay for the electricity you use.”

How to know how much you are really consuming

There are all kinds of more or less expensive gadgets that claim to measure the kWh you consume. There are also complex formulas for which you would need to have the instruction booklets of all your domestic appliances and a calculator to hand.

Endesa Clients have a much more accurate, much faster and infinitely easier option: enter the Endesa Client Area.

If you are registered, all you have to do is enter the section that shows you your per hour electricity consumption.

If you haven't registered yet, you can do so by clicking on the following button:

You can enter your Client Area from any computer or device with an Internet connection, at any time. You can download the Endesa mobile app onto your mobile and tablet, with the same features.

You will be able to see the exact kWh you have consumed during each hour of every day of each month. Those are the kWh that matter to you, since they are the ones that will appear on your bill (and the ones which you will pay for).

This is just some of the information that will be available to you in your Client Area:

Your accumulated consumption:

  • Choose a period: select the dates for which you want to know how many kWh you have consumed.
  • Choose a view: you can choose if you want to see the information "By invoice" (this includes the period that affects the invoice you choose) or "By days" (you can select a specific day of any month).
  • You consumed: the exact number of kWh your home consumed. It also compares what you were consuming on the same dates of the previous year, indicating if your consumption is lower, more moderate, normal, higher or very high in comparison. In fact, you are shown how many kWh you were consuming between the same dates last year.
  • Separate time slots: to see the information in a more or less compressed form.
  • Bar graph: the progression of your day-on-day consumption, so that you visually appreciate when it was higher and on what days it went down or up.
  • Save as spreadsheet: you can export it as an Excel file for making your own calculations.

Configuring it at your will means you can examine a specific day in detail to know what happened. At what time of day did your electricity expenditure go through the roof?
