The electric vehicle market is growing very quickly thanks to the many advantages these vehicles offer. If you have ever considered buying one of these vehicles, it is important to know certain aspects that will help you decide whether it is the best model for you.
They cost more than internal combustion engine vehicles, but there are public incentives and other regional plans that provide future purchasers with several facilities. In fact, sales of electric and hybrid vehicles in Spain increased by 94.9% during the first five months of 2017, compared with the same period of the preceding year.
Together with the incentives offered for purchasing electric vehicles, there are also considerable fuel savings, which can range between 700 and 1,200 euros for every 15,000 km travelled. Furthermore, in some cities such as Madrid and Barcelona, electric vehicle users also benefit from other features, such as not paying for parking, regardless of whether it is a green or blue zone.
Another important aspect is the energy efficiency of these vehicles, which is twice that of combustion engine vehicles, not to mention the significant savings on vehicle maintenance, since you will not have to worry about mechanical transmissions, oils or lubricants.
Cities also appreciate the growing trend of electric vehicles, which prevent the emission of CO2 and keep our streets clean, instead of the increasing contamination caused by combustion engine vehicles.
In terms of the autonomy of electric vehicles, there is still a considerable difference between the mileage reached by electric vehicles compared with traditional vehicles, but in recent years, this difference has become less noticeable, with electric vehicles now reaching 400 km on a single battery charge.
Apart from the technical aspects to be considered when purchasing an electric vehicle, it is also important to know about the aspects concerning the installation of an electric vehicle charging point in your garage: Do you need to ask your community for permission?
The Law indicates that you must inform the community of owners and the administrator, however under no circumstances can they prevent you from installing the charging point, since your electricity consumption is applied directly to your bill and does not affect other neighbours. If you rent the parking space, you will have to ask your landlord for permission and if it is leased on a concessionary basis, you will need to check if there is an action protocol in this regard.
In order to install the electric vehicle charging point, you simply need a grounded 230/400 VAC supply point, a main electrical control panel and switch and a measuring device. However, if your garage is not located in the same place as your home, you will have to ask your distribution company for a new supply point.
In terms of needing an Electrical Project for your installation, don’t worry: if you sign up for our Comprehensive Electric Vehicle Charging Solution, we can take care of everything for you.
