The technological challenges organisations face, are constantly emerging as obstacles that can only be overcome through innovation. The aim of entrepreneurship and educational innovation is to serve as a source of solutions to these challenges: accordingly, at Endesa we have renewed our commitment to these values for a fifth consecutive year at South Summit, the leading startup meeting conference in southern Europe.
Conferences like the South Summit, which was held from the 4-6 of October in LA N@VE, in Madrid, are the ideal venues for generating and presenting new ideas, mixing with entrepreneurs and supporting new projects.
Two leading projects for South Summit
This year we presented two projects during the event: RetoTech_Fundación_Endesa for secondary students and teachers and the Compe10ncias LED, programme, aimed at youngsters. The aim of the former is to promote projects designed to transform education at all levels, while the latter seeks to promote the entrepreneurial skills of youngsters so they can design new projects.
In fact, during the event the Fundación Endesa presented a technological solution created by students and teachers from the first edition of RetoTech_Fundación_Endesa, together with another two projects designed by youngsters trained by the Endesa foundation and the Youth Business international network.
The perfect setting for innovation
This year we also formed part of the jury responsible for choosing the winners in a series of competitions from among a total of 100 finalist startups and for awarding the prize to the winner in the 'Energy & Sustainability' category. These companies were chosen from among more than 3,500 projects submitted by participants of 70 different nationalities.
This meeting was a great chance to promote the development of different sectors with the emergence of new startups and to put investors in touch with foreign companies in Spain.
Various opinion leaders closely related to innovation and entrepreneurship attended the event, such as the Social Media Consultant and Trainer, Antonio Domingo, who highlighted Endesa’s interest in these values via ongoing projects related to the business world: “These include their famous hackathons or Blockchain related projects launched last year and which are still ongoing”.
South Summit: a meeting point for companies
The 200+ international speakers at the event included various managers in the field of innovation from Endesa, who had the honour of presenting projects such as the Innovation Hub Madrid, which acts as a launch pad for the most innovative startups in the energy sector.
“We have launched our Enel Innovation Hubs, such as the new one opening in Madrid, so we can be close to the startup ecosystem.”
Fernando Sandoval, Manager of Enel Innovation Hub Madrid
In figures, this event led to more than 2,000 one to one meetings and the participation of 150 international investment funds, with an investment portfolio of more than 34 billion dollars, with the South Summit continuing to be one of the most important events in the innovation and startup sector.
Collaborating with events such as South Summit enables us to discover new talents and support new projects. Entrepreneurship and innovation are key aspects for tackling the challenges that lie ahead for constantly evolving environments such as the electricity sector. Juan Garrigosa, from Enel e-Solutions Innovation Iberia commented “We need to reinvent ourselves in order to lead the way in the energy sector revolution".
