Just because something is normal doesn’t mean it is good. What is normal is not knowing the name of your electricity tariff. What is normal not having a clue when you use most electricity. What is normal is not understanding your energy bills. We suggest making you special. The more you know about your energy consumption, the better you will be able to control it.
Complicated things can also be easily explained. For example, your electricity bill has two main sections:
- Power: you pay the same amount every month for “subscribing” to the power grid. It only changes if you change your contracted power.
- Energy: what you use, which shoots up if you use the washing machine, switch on the air conditioning, put something in the oven… This is what you can learn more about and control.
The national average
The electricity you use is measured in kilowatt hours (kWh). But, how much is a kWh? To give you an idea, this is the average consumption of some electrical appliances:
Refrigerator: 1.8 kWh per day.
Television: 0.72 kWh per day.
Washing machine: 0.69 kWh per day.
Adding all this up every day together with each device, the average national Spanish household uses around 3,500 kWh per year.
This consumption is particularly high throughout the afternoon/evening.
You are not the average
The average is what is normal, but why just settle for this if you can learn more?
