- On 31 July, Endesa began its activity as the contractor for the terminal's logistics services, providing flexibility and storage capacity to enable the company to guarantee security for supply on a Spanish and European scale.
- Today the 'Gaslog Warsaw' docked in El Musel following the successful unloading of the first two liquefied natural gas vessels which were needed for the start-up of the plant.
Today, the first Endesa ship, the 'Gaslog Warsaw' docked at the El Musel liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Gijón. It has a capacity of 180,000 m3 and unloading followed the completion of the necessary final technical tests before the commercial start-up of the plant.
On 31 July, Endesa began its activity as a result of the company being assigned the terminal's logistics services, following the successful completion of the capacity allocation process (Open Season), undertaken by Enagás. This process attracted great interest among the retailers and 13 offers were presented during the arbitration phase.
The logistics services offered for this infrastructure are unloading, storage and loading of LNG. The regulated access regime at El Musel involves a minimum regasification for the correct management of the terminal, as well as a tank loading service.
In July the terminal received two ships as a preliminary necessary technical step prior to the commercial start-up of the terminal: The 'Cool Racer', with a capacity of 174,000 m3, and the 'Dorado LNG', with the same capacity.
The start-up of the El Musel plant is a key step in the start-up of the infrastructure's commercial operations, and it is an essential feature of the Government's More Energy Security Plan, with the aim of strengthening the security of energy supply in Europe.
For Endesa, the assignment of the logistics services offered by this infrastructure is a significant milestone. El Musel will provide Endesa with flexibility at a time when European terminals are congested. The LNG tanks also provide storage capacity and the exclusive use of the terminal opens the possibility for new business opportunities, all contributing to strengthening the security of Europe's energy supply.
In this context, the retailer Endesa Energía will guarantee the necessary supply so the terminal, the tank loading services and injection into the transmission network all operate at their best.
The Gijón plant will be able to contribute a capacity of up to 8 bcm (billion cubic metres) of LNG per year to the security of European energy supply. It will be able to provide berths for ships of between 50,000 and 266,000 m³, it has two tanks with the capacity to store 150,000 m³ of LNG, two tank loaders with the capacity to load a maximum of 9 GWh/d and a maximum emission capacity of 800,000 Nm³/h.
On 28 February, Enagás and Reganosa signed an agreement to acquire the 130 km network of gas pipelines belonging to Enagás and 25% of the El Musel Plant. Once this operation has been completed, scheduled for the second half of the year, the shareholding for the El Musel Plant will be 75% Enagás and 25% Reganosa. This will enable us to take advantage of synergies and work together on the services offered by the plant and there will be new possibilities for collaboration to strengthen security of supply and make progress with regard to the decarbonisation objectives of Spain and Europe.
