Digitalisation in generation
We promote the digitalisation of our electricity generation plants
The goal of our digitalisation initiatives in generation is to increase the efficiency of the plants and improve their integration into the electricity system.
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainable development goals
SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure
SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
The digital transformation projects that we are developing in the field of electricity generation incorporate the use of new technologies, with the aim of improving the efficiency of power generation and reducing its impact on the environment.
We are strengthening technologies, such as wireless sensors, that allow operating data to be collected at the plants and we are working to improve the connectivity of and data transmission between plants. We have also increased our cybersecurity measures, paying special attention to critical infrastructures.
With the incorporation of robotics and drones, the operability of the generation plants has improved, leading to areas with little access for people and optimising the processes. In 2019, we began to use a new remotely controlled underwater robot for inspection and intervention during maintenance work on underwater facilities. This practice leads to minimal occupational risks, lower maintenance costs and an optimal response time to an incident.
Digitalisation in thermal power plants
The DIGI PLANT programme, which started in 2018, includes various digital initiatives aimed at improving the operation and maintenance of the plants, the safety and health of personnel and also improvements in the environmental field. The following initiatives stand out.
APC
Implementation of advanced predictive control systems to increase plant efficiency and availability.
Predictive Diagnosis
Use of machine learning techniques and analysis of operational data to detect and diagnose faults to reduce unavailability and avoid catastrophic breakdowns.
Efficiency management
Development of software to improve the monitoring of plant efficiency.
Digital Report
Development and implementation of a single global system for generating reports.
HSEQ
Digitalisation of waste management to improve its management and safety.
Digital warehouse
Introduction of new technologies for inventory control.
HMI
Development of a software tool that allows plant operators to make faster, more efficient decisions.
Digital Worker transformation
Development of mobile information tools for field operators, with the aim of speeding up the execution of field work and increasing the safety of these operations.
Digital management of lorry access/exit
Improved access control through the automatic management of the entry and exit of materials to and from the plant and of associated permits.
Digitalisation of renewable power plants
In regard to the digitalisation of renewable energy plants, through Enel Green Power Spain we have undertaken the following digital initiatives:
SENTINEL
Development of a real-time mobile phone app that displays hydro, wind and solar technology assets in real time. It displays both the technical data on the assets and the forecast energy prices.
Predictive diagnosis using a CMS
Predictive diagnosis using a CMS (Condition Monitoring System): we have implemented 5 vibration analysis software platforms in wind turbines, allowing us to determine the actions required to reduce maintenance costs and prevent breakdowns.
GAIA
Modernisation and integration of control systems in Hydraulic Production units. In addition, there is GAIABOT, a chatbot that includes an intelligent system for searching for documents and specific content within documents.
We have also carried out several engineering and construction digitalisation projects in the area of renewables: in 2019 we launched the Active Safety System that detects people near work areas with machinery and the GPS excavator that incorporates a precision excavation system.
