- The newly launched compliance system section on Endesa’s website offers the public an overview of the system’s key areas and the official certifications that validate it.
- Moving forward, onboarding sessions for new employees will also include specific content on compliance.
- Additionally, all Endesa employees will receive a general training course on the company’s compliance system.
As a step forward in its commitment to business ethics and regulatory compliance, Endesa has introduced three new initiatives to strengthen its compliance system. First and foremost, the company has created a new section on its website that focuses entirely on this issue. Furthermore, compliance content will be included in onboarding sessions for new employees moving forward, while all current employees will receive a general training course on this topic. This new course will supplement the existing programmes that cover specific areas of compliance.
Of the three latest initiatives undertaken by Endesa in the field of compliance, the most significant is the creation of a dedicated section on its website. This space has been designed to make the company’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations and responsibilities to employees, customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders more accessible to the public.
This web section, which can be found under the ‘Our commitment’ section and was launched in December 2024, provides information on the various areas that make up Endesa’s comprehensive and diverse compliance system. These include criminal and anti-bribery compliance, tax compliance, competition law, and data protection, as well as an internal whistleblower protection system. The section also explains how, through a cross-cutting and integrated approach, all these areas are managed by a series of committees in coordination with the Board of Directors.
In terms of criminal and anti-bribery compliance, the section outlines how Endesa has established a framework of regulations, policies, and ongoing risk assessment and control activities to prevent criminal offences and corruption within the company. Notably, in 2017, Endesa became the first IBEX 35 company to simultaneously obtain the UNE 19601 and UNE-ISO 37001 certifications from AENOR, both of which remain valid today.
The website also underscores that, since 2021, Endesa has put in place regulations and policies to ensure compliance with competition law. These measures include a detailed programme, guidelines for conduct, and internal protocols based on the standards of the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) and other regulatory authorities. In this regard, the company also obtained AENOR certification for free competition compliance (UNE 19603) in 2024, becoming the first IBEX 35 company to earn this distinction.
As in the above-mentioned areas, the new web section outlines how Endesa’s tax compliance system has also been certified by AENOR since 2020 under the UNE 19602 standard, as it relies on operational procedures, criteria manuals, and specific tools to mitigate tax-related risks. Lastly, the section highlights the fiscal transparency seal awarded by Fundación Haz in 2024, which recognises Endesa as one of the IBEX 35 companies with the best practices in General Transparency and Fiscal Responsibility Issues.
With regard to data protection, the website informs that, since 2018, Endesa has implemented a regulatory compliance model in this area. This way, it ensures ongoing and effective privacy risk assessments through protocols, manuals, and resources for comprehensive personal data lifecycle management.
Fifth, the public can also find information on the company’s compliance with its general risk control and management policy. In this case, Endesa explains how the company has its dedicated system for this area, which complies with a specific structure and a set of standards and protocols that were recognised as best-in-class in the latest external review conducted by prestigious experts. This section also explains how, since its creation in 2015, this policy has been regularly updated to provide an appropriate level of assurance to shareholders and safeguard their interests, as well as those of the company's customers and other stakeholders.
The final branch of Endesa's compliance system featured on the website is the internal whistleblower protection system, which offers comprehensive protection and support to individuals wishing to report unlawful conduct. This system reaffirms the company's commitment to preventing illegal dealings and upholding the highest ethical standards. More specifically, it features a communication channel for anonymous reporting.
Compliance training during new employee onboarding
Another new initiative in the field of compliance introduced by Endesa is the inclusion of this content in the onboarding sessions designed for new employees, regardless of their position, to ensure a solid understanding of the system from the moment they join the organisation.
Thus, from day one, new employees joining Endesa will receive detailed information about internal standards, the company’s ethical code, and the established procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. For instance, when working with suppliers, due diligence procedures must be established, while relevant updates communicated through a dedicated mass communication channel for suppliers.
A generic compliance course for all employees
As a third initiative to strengthen training and awareness of the company’s compliance system, all Endesa employees will be required to complete a generic course on this subject. What’s more, Endesa regularly issues internal communications about its protocols, corporate integrity programmes, and policies.
