- This initiative is part of the Futur-e Plan promoted by Endesa for energy transition in Bierzo.
One hundred people from Bierzo who wish to train to become maintenance workers of photovoltaic installations have an opportunity to do so free of charge. Endesa, Fundación Santa Bárbara (Castilla and León regional government) and Fundación Ciudad de la Energía (CIUDEN) (Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge) are organising four training courses on this subject, held between March and June.
Each course, with twenty-five students per call, will consist of one hundred teaching hours, of which 55 will be theory and 45 practical. The classes will take place at the premises of CIUDEN and Fundación Santa Bárbara. At the end of this process, the participants will receive an official skills certificate, issued by the Castilla and León regional government. To enrol, applicants must have completed secondary education or be in possession of a school graduate degree.
The first course will take place between 14 March and 4 April; the second, from 5 to 28 April; the third, from 29 April to 23 May; and the fourth, from 24 May to 14 June.
The offer is open to everyone in the province, prioritising people who can prove they have been registered as residents in Cubillos del Sil, Ponferrada or Cabañas Raras for at least one year. Preference will also be given to women and to former workers of the contractors of the Compostilla thermal power plant.
Anyone interested in this opportunity must apply to Fundación Santa Bárbara, both in person and electronically. There will also be registration forms in the town halls of Cubillos del Sil and Ponferrada. The application period is now open and will remain open until one hundred people have applied, or until the day before the start of the last edition, on 18 May. Registration is free.
This training activity is part of the Futur-e plan presented by Endesa to mitigate the effects of closing the thermal power plant and includes actions such the development of renewable megawatts in the area and a competition for the search for future projects at the company's site in Compostilla. To date, four training courses have already been conducted for the dismantling of industrial facilities and two for wind farm personnel. A total of 260 people have benefitted from these activities.
The initiative is in line with Endesa's commitment to mitigating the consequences of the energy transition implemented in Europe, with a view to achieving the decarbonisation of the economy as per social, economic and environmental sustainability criteria. The aim is to create shared value with all those involved locally, as an example of circular economy, in order to achieve fair transition towards new business models.
