Good water resource management comes with a prize. The prestigious Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) index has acknowledged good water management in the performance of our activity and has awarded us as a leading company in the fight against climate change and the leader in water resource management in relation to our processes.
The award, which we received during the “CDP Europe Awards 2017” ceremony held on 20 November in Brussels, acknowledges the maximum score we have achieved in the questionnaire that assesses the management and government of freshwater resources (CDP Water).
CDP is an international, non-profit organisation that promotes sustainable economies. The CDP performance results are a useful tool for investors to know the leading companies in the fight against climate change.
CDP establishes a score that ranges from the highest level, A, to the lowest level, D-. This year, at Endesa, we have achieved a score of A- for CDP Climate Change and A for CDP Water, which has enabled us to enter the A-List, whose “utilities” category only has 10 companies worldwide. The score achieved represents a significant improvement in our global result compared with last year.
The “A list”, in which we are included thanks to the CDP Water score, includes companies that stand out for their performance in climate change and water and forest management. Enel is also included in this list due to the score achieved in the CDP Climate Change index, which acknowledges the company’s achievements in decarbonisation and emission reduction.
We have been participating in the prestigious CDP Climate Change index since 2006. If we compare the score with 2016, we have improved our score from Management level to Leadership level.
On the other hand, in the utilities sector, the supply of freshwater is essential for many technologies that help to reduce emissions. Since 2015, CDP has established a scoring system to assess the effort made by companies. At Endesa, we have achieved good progress in our scores on this index. In 2016, we achieved A- and, this year, we have achieved the maximum score of A.
Our outstanding presence in the main indices for corporate social responsibility reflects the sincere and rigorous commitment we have towards integrating social, environmental, ethical and good governance aspects in managing business and decision-making processes.
