How much does it cost to recharge an electric car?
The cost of recharging an electric car depends entirely on the rate we have contracted. The car is another device that will add kWh to the consumption section.
The many fees available to you are divided into the type of toll or access fee you have.
"Normal" rates: These have a 2.0 A toll. Most homes in Spain have this type of rate, which implies power of less than 10 kW and no time discrimination. Obviously, most households in Spain do not have an electric car.
The most suitable rates for an electric car: These are 2.0 DHS rates, which involve less than 10 kW power and time discrimination in 3 periods. The amount to be paid on your bills will depend on how you distribute your consumption between these three periods.
Peak: from 13:00 to 23:00 hours. This is the band in which you will pay the most expensive kWh.
Valley: from 23:00 to 01:00 and from 07:00 to 13:00 hours.
Super-valley: from 01:00 to 07:00 hours. This is the band in which you will pay the cheapest kWh and, therefore, the cheapest time to recharge your electric car.
Once you have made it clear that what is right for you is a 2.0 DHS fee, you need to know that there are specific rates for electric vehicles. With the Tempo Zero, for example, you will pay €0 per kWh consumed during the Valley period.
If you use a public recharging point, you will need to submit to the conditions laid down for it. There are some that are completely free of charge (for customers of certain shopping centres, hotels, etc.) and there are some with a linked contract that permits recharging vouchers or other options.
To recharge an electric car at home, do you have to contract more power?
In principle, this will not be necessary.
This does not mean that an electric car will be a more power-demanding device than others (the fridge, oven, etc.). Therefore, you should learn about the power currently contracted and check if you have enough to include an electric car in the equation.
How long does it take to recharge an electric car?
The full battery charge of an electric car depends on the size of the battery, the power at which the car can be charged and the power of the recharging point. If the power of the latter two is different, the lowest will prevail.
That is, if the load point power is 3.7 kWh and the vehicle power is 7.4 kWh, the charge will be 3.7 kWh.
Conclusion: the answer to the question depends on several factors, but, for a charge at 3.7 kWh, the estimates are about 6-8 hours for a full charge.
