Tariffs for access to energy: We can help you adapt to the changes
Access tolls tariffs or fees affect your electricity and gas bills. In 2021 there are changes. We will explain everything you need to know.
What has changed and why?
Tariffs are a part of your bill and they pay for what it costs for electricity and gas to reach your home. They are also called access tariffs.
New regulations developed by the Government and CNMC have changed them so that your savings and efficiency behaviours have a greater influence on what you end up paying in the bill.
- Electricity tariffs: In force since 1 June 2021. With new electricity time bands that affect the price (both in terms of power and consumption) and new names for access tariffs (tariffs 2.0 and 2.1 are now denominated 2.0TD). Check out our content on the new electricity tariffs.
- Gas tariffs: In force from 1 October 2021. With new annual consumption limits that determine which is your toll and new names for access tariffs (tariff 3.2 is separated into tariff RL.2 and RL.3). Check out our content on the new gas access tariffs.

In the case of gas, it is your annual consumption (measured in kWh) that determines whether one tariff (toll) or another will be applied. The main changes with the new regulations affect the names given to the tariffs and their consumption limits. Below you will see how tariff names and consumption limits have changed:
Tariffs that change (P≤ 4 bars) | Tariffs that change (P≤ 4 bars) | Annual gas consumption time bands |
---|---|---|
Until 30/09/2021 | From 01/10/2021 | Annual consumption (Ca) |
3.1 | RL.1 | Ca ≤ 5,000 kWh |
3.2* | RL.2 | 5,000 kWh < Ca ≤ 15,000 kWh |
3.2* | RL.3 | 15,000 kWh < Ca ≤ 50,000 kWh |
3.3 | RL.4 | 50,000 kWh < Ca ≤ 300,000 kWh |
*Tariff 3.2 is divided into two sections in accordance with the new consumption time bands: RL2 or RL3 depending on annual gas consumption.
