  • On 27 and 28 November Endesa Hackathon convenes programmers, entrepreneurs and creative talents looking for innovative solutions that help different customers to optimize their use of energy.
  • This is the first Hackathon in a series of challenges to be released from the collaborative platform Endesa Energy Challenges www.endesaenergychallenges.com, presented at the fourth edition of the South Summit.

Endesa today opened the call for their first Hackathon, an encounter which, for two days, will gather the best innovative talent to develop innovative solutions to enable customers with varying profiles to optimize the use of energy.

Launching this call opens the selection stage to choose the 40 best candidates to participate, divided into groups of four, at Endesa Hackathon which will take place on 27 and 28 November at Madrid. The aim is to develop solutions to optimize energy savings, taking advantage of the new Spanish system of hourly billing.

Programmers, creative entrepreneurs and talents interested in enrolling will have to access the platform Endesa Energy Challenges (www.endesaenergychallenges.com), created specifically for these initiatives as a commitment of the company to innovative talent and open innovation. Precisely this Endesa Hackathon is the first in a series of challenges to be launched from this platform recently introduced in the fourth edition of Spain Start Up.

The registration period for the first Endesa Hackathon ends on 15 November and those selected will be informed on the 23rd of that month. Subsequently those selected will compete for two days (27 and 28 November), and the winning team will receive a prize of € 6,000 and those taking the second and third place will receive € 3,000 and € 1,000 respectively.

The meeting will be attended by international experts who will coordinate the work following the latest innovation methodologies such as Design Thinking, thus helping the customer to become the centre of the solutions offered by the most innovative minds. Design Thinking is a discipline of innovation to match the needs of people with what is technologically feasible and what a viable business strategy can make valuable for the customer and an opportunity for the market.

Support for entrepreneurs

Endesa Energy Challenges offers another important challenge, namely Endesa Datathon, a pioneering innovation competition in the energy sector, aimed at encouraging the development of applications, business models or any other proposal that provides value to Endesa customers and is oriented to the Spanish electricity market. These proposals will be based on the analysis of the millions of simulated user data from new hourly readings.

Endesa Energy Challenges joins other initiatives that Endesa has already launched to support entrepreneurship in our country, such as endesa2244 (www.endesa2244.com), a permanently open door to entrepreneurs to enable them to present to Endesa their projects and ideas through a brief questionnaire (2244 characters); or the European accelerator INCENSe (www.incense-accelerator.com) belonging to the FIWARE Accelerate programme (www.fiware.org) of the European Commission, which has just closed its second call. INCENSe, which will deliver up to 150,000 euros and acceleration services to each of the 42 selected European startups, is a project funded by the European Commission in which, together with Endesa, other partners take part such as ENEL (Endesa’s parent company), the Danish accelerator ACCELERACE, main accelerator of northern Europe, and FundingBox Accelerator, the first and largest global platform of public funding for startups and researchers.
