28,626 Spanish pupils from 357 schools imagine what cities of the future will be like

  • PlayEnergy is Enel Group’s educational workshop on science and energy – an educational programme for schools and pupils running since 2003 and now available in 10 countries where the Group is present.
  • Participants also entered their work in a competition to attend final gala, to be held in Italy and where prizes for best energy-related projects will be handed out.
  • PlayEnergy competition invites pupils from third and fourth years of primary education to think what the city of the future would be like; a smart city which uses innovative solutions to achieve greater efficiency in the use of the energy we consume.
  • Madrid, 29 April 2016. This year, 28,626 pupils from third and fourth years of primary education from 357 Spanish schools signed up for a new edition of PlayEnergy – the international educational programme on science and energy organised by Enel, Endesa’s parent company, promoting a responsible energy culture among young people.

By participating in the programme, pupils become immersed in the world of energy, and have the opportunity to design what the cities of the future will be like; smart cities which will use innovative solutions to achieve greater efficiency in the use of the energy we consume.

All the projects by the pupils were also entered in a competition, and the winner of the first prize will have the opportunity to attend the international gala held in Italy during this second quarter of the year, which will bring together all the winning schools from the various countries.

In Spain, the three winners were:

1.    “Dreaming of a better world”, by the Madre María Rosa Molas school in Zaragoza.

2.    “Torrenergy”, by the Escola l’Antina school in Tarragona.

3.    “Futureland”, by the Divino Pastor school in Málaga.

At the beginning of the school year, each school taking part in PlayEnergy received a teaching portfolio of educational resources to present the world of energy in the classroom, and thus acquire the basic knowledge necessary to carry out the project.

Divided into groups of between three and 10, the children prepared a project in digital format with their ideas for a city of the future, based on five topics or definitions of energy as a starting point for inventing, renewing and releasing creativity: innovation, efficiency, creativity, research and future.

PlayEnergy and Endesa Educa: education on energy

PlayEnergy is the international educational programme launched by the Enel Group in 2003 to raise awareness of the complex world of energy among the younger generations.

The programme is currently running in 10 countries where the Group is present (Italy, Spain, Russia, Greece, Romania, Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama) and its initiatives provide schools with a number of tools to go on a unique, fun journey into science. Pupils and teachers can access online and offline activities, workshops, educational resources, lessons and experiments on science and energy, interesting facts about the world, and activities for classwork. For further information, visit: http://playenergy.enel.com

In Spain, the educational activities carried out by Endesa as part of the PlayEnergy initiative have been included in the Endesa Educa teaching programme for the last seven years, although the task of dissemination – offering energy education-related activities, advice and resources free of charge to all the schools in Spain – commenced fourteen years before.

In line with the objectives of PlayEnergy, Endesa Educa seeks to encourage an efficient, rational use of electricity and to promote awareness of the value of energy for a better quality of life.

This wide range of initiatives includes online activities available on Endesa Educa’s website (http://www.endesaeduca.com/Endesa_educa), visits to power plants and activities at Endesa’s information centres, directed toward educators, and workshops at Endesa’s schools. In addition, the pupils who take part in the Endesa Educa programme also have the opportunity to enter the PlayEnergy international competition.

Any groups interested in taking part in any activities can make reservations by calling +34 902.500.049 or by sending an e-mail to endesaeduca@endesa.es.
