- The figure has been set in an agreement signed between Endesa's general director of Marketing, Javier Uriarte, and the general director of FEDA, Albert Moles
- From 2021, the total amount of energy with green certification will be 70 GWh/year and this will enable the provision of cleaner energy to citizens
- The rest of the electricity imported into the Principality will continue to be provided by Endesa
Endesa will guarantee, starting next year, that 33% of the energy Andorra receives from Spain will be renewable in origin. This was stipulated in the agreement signed today, Tuesday, between Endesa's general director of Marketing, Javier Uriarte, and the general director of FEDA (the electricity producer, importer and distributor in Andorra), Albert Moles. The contract is underpinned by the will of the two companies to firmly commit to reducing CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.
Specifically, the agreement foresees that 70 GWh of electrical energy will be imported annually with the certification of renewable origin issued by the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC), which is equivalent to approximately one third of the electrical energy that is imported into the Principality from Spain. The remaining energy consumed annually in Andorra, up to 210 Gwh, will continue to be supplied by Endesa, as before, and with the energy mix offered by the market.
Thanks to this commitment, acquired for the next 10 years, Andorra's citizens will receive cleaner energy and it is expected that, in the future, the proportion of certified renewable energy will continue to increase as the importance of green energy grows, which will gradually displace fossil fuels.
During the signing of the agreement, the general director of FEDA, Albert Moles, stated that the organisation is increasingly committed to renewable energy and reducing CO2 emissions, and that this commitment cannot only relate to its own electricity production, but that it has to be extended to the energy that is imported, since it still represents most of what is consumed.
For his part, Endesa's general director of Marketing, Javier Uriarte, explained that signing this agreement demonstrates Endesa's firm commitment to continue leading the energy transition and the fact that it is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, he indicated that it reinforces the Company's commitment to 100% decarbonise the energy mix by 2050, with a roadmap that sets out ambitious objectives for the coming years, while continuing to meet needs customer and improve services.
FEDA and Endesa have maintained a close relationship since 1998 and have wanted to strengthen ties with the signing of this agreement, since the two companies share a commitment to the energy transition with the aim of fighting climate change.
