Endesa is participating in Convergence, the global blockchain congress

  • Convergence 2019 is bringing together over 1500 participants from the international blockchain community at the Trade Fair and Congress Centre of Malaga from 11 to 13 November.
  • Day one kicks off with the Global Blockchain Challenge, an open innovation initiative where different teams will compete to address challenges around the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals using blockchain technology.
  • Endesa is one of the main partners of the event and will participate in a roundtable discussion about the implementation of blockchain to facilitate the relationship between companies and public administrations.

Endesa is participating in the first edition of Convergence, the Global Blockchain Congress, which will be held from 11 to 13 November at Trade Fair and Congress Centre of Malaga (FYCMA).

Convergence is jointly organised by the European Commission, the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA), the EU Blockchain Observatory and Forum and Alastria, bringing together over 1500 participants from the international blockchain community with regulators, policy makers, influential industry figures and community members with a social impact. Endesa's aim is to stay at the forefront of technology and to continue developing the best products and services for its customers, which is why it is one of the main collaborators of the congress.

As part of its Open Innovation model, Endesa joins this global event as a partner to address challenges in its different lines of business by seeking creative solutions capable of transforming the current energy model into a collaborative innovation model, bringing together suppliers, technology and research centres, universities and start-ups, among others.

Endesa will take part in one of the roundtable discussions during the Congress, bringing together representatives from different administrations under the theme "Improving relationships with public administrations using blockchain". Participating in the discussion will be José Antonio Agüado, professor at the University of Malaga; Jesús Ruiz, board member and CTO of Alastria; and José Minguez, Head of Innovation Market Iberia at Endesa and member of the Blockchain community of Eurelectric (organisation representing the electricity industry in 32 European countries); and a member of the Malaga City Council. The roundtable will be moderated by Isaac Agudo Ruiz, Cybersecurity Researcher at NICS Lab.

During the three days of the congress, other important industry issues such as 'The Future of Blockchain', will also be explored through talks, panels, workshops, cultural events and roundtable discussions along with: DLT five years from now, 'Technological Convergence (Quantum and Big Data, AI and Blockchain)', 'Blockchain for a sustainable society', 'Stablecoins and 'Central Bank Cryptocurrencies', 'Blockchain and platforms: Disruption of data monopolies, 'Interoperability and standardisation' and 'Blockchain and privacy', among others.

Global Blockchain Challenge: Solutions to address the challenges around the SDGs

The Congress starts on 11 November and this is when the Global Blockchain Challenge will take place. This is an Open Innovation initiative where different teams will work to present blockchain-based solutions to each of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the end of the day.

A team of participants from different sectors (entrepreneurship, business, ICT and legal) will offer an innovative solution or initiative that will bring a multidisciplinary vision to the SDGs and provide creative solutions.

Endesa will work directly with the team that will try to provide blockchain-based solutions for SDG 7: "Affordable and clean energy". For this challenge, and in line with its open innovation model, Endesa has selected a representative from the University of Malaga, a member of a start-up and a legal adviser who will work together to contribute their ideas to the company's current commitment: To fight against energy poverty using blockchain technology.

A panel of specialists will choose the winning team for each of the categories: "The best start-up based on Blockchain", "The best blockchain-based scaling" and a "Special Prize for the best public initiative to promote in its territory the development of startups using blockchain technology to solve the challenges around the 17 SDGs".

The winners will be recognised at the StartUp Europe-World Blockchain Awards on the evening of 11 November and will receive a European acceleration prize worth EUR 10,000.
