- Endesa has lent its support to ASCER's XIII Interior Design and Architecture Ceramics Awards Ceremony. The awards will be presented in February 2015.
Endesa and ASCER (Association of Tile and Ceramic Paving Manufacturers) have signed an agreement which will see Endesa become the preferred provider of the ceramics industry.
The agreement, which was signed by ASCER Chairman Isidro Zarzoso and Endesa's Director of Large Clients Martin Ribas, envisages the creation of specific lines of work which will provide the ceramics industry members with systems that will enable them to reduce their energy costs, increase energy efficiency and, therefore, boost their competitiveness and sustainability.
Endesa and ASCER have worked together since 2006, implementing operating lines which will give member tile companies systems to reinforce their energy efficiency plans and reduce their energy costs. Endesa has performed more than 30 energy audits for ASCER members.
As a result of this audit work, some interesting R&D+i initiatives have arisen, resulting in the performance by Endesa of heat recovery projects for companies in the industry that have generated overall savings in energy consumption of 20%.
Endesa has also provided ASCER with other services including the sale and purchase of CO2 emission allowances, integral management of meter systems, management of public subsidies for investment projects and infrared thermography at energy facilities.
The one-year agreement counts on Endesa's support at ASCER's XIII Interior Design and Architecture Ceramics Awards. The purpose of the prize is to increase the use of Spanish ceramics in architecture and interior design projects in Spain and abroad. The award will be presented at the CEVISAMA International Ceramics Fair in Valencia in February 2015.
The panel's decision was announced at the end of November. The winner of the architecture category was the Casa en Principe Real (Lisbon, Portugal), with a special mention for "the brilliant interpretation of the use of ceramics in Lisbon's old quarter." First prize in the Interior Design category went to the restoration project of the cloister at the Palau-Castell de Betxi (Castellon). The panel were impressed with the conceptual transformation of the interior space of the cloister, incorporating a large mirror area which "virtually constructs" half of the lost renaissance cloister. The aim of the project is to restore the space within the cloister by incorporating a traditional clay patio.
For Endesa, the agreement means that it will have a reasonable income guaranteed in the medium term for its production assets, which will be used to supply the ceramics industry. At the same time it will help to consolidate its position as the largest electricity operator on the Spanish electricity market with a market share of around 33%, and the second biggest natural gas operator on the Spanish market with a share of around 18.5%.
ASCER accounts for more than 95% of ceramics production in Spain. The Spanish ceramics industry, which is the second largest producer in Europe and the third biggest exporter worldwide, employs 15,500 people directly and creates more than 7,000 indirect jobs.
