How will future generations remember us?
Preserving our history is more than just an act of nostalgia, it is an avenue through which we can interpret our present, shape our future, and pay tribute to the actions and sacrifices of the generations that preceded us. Photography is uniquely able to freeze time, to immortalise events in our lives that will never happen again, protecting them from the insidious threat of oblivion.
This is a critical moment in our history, where a new energy transition, born of the imminent threat of climate change, is taking shape. This silent but steadfast revolution is transforming the world as we know it, and laying the foundations for the world to come. The legacy we will leave, a project supported by Endesa that is playing a leading role in this new transition, is using photography to create a tangible testimony of this unprecedented challenge that we face as a society. This new energy transition, unlike its predecessors, engenders the demands of a modern society where the defence of the environment, a commitment to sustainability and the challenge presented by a fair transition leave no one by the wayside and are inescapable imperatives.
With the arrival of renewable energies, we respectfully bid farewell to the great era of coal. A chapter in our recent history that brought huge social-economic development, provided opportunities to numerous territories and shaped the world we have inherited today. This new energy transition presents us with the opportunities these times give us, and it provides specific answers to the great challenges of a world and a society in constant movement.
However, the importance of this energy transition does not seem to have penetrated the collective consciousness of all civil society. That is why it is imperative to give an honest, impartial testimony, with no waving of flags, that respects the plurality of the perspectives covered by this energy transition. This will enable us to build a photographic legacy that will serve future generations to understand their present, reflect on the legacy we leave them and, hopefully, inspire them to protect and improve the world they inherit.
